West Barnstable Fire Department The West Barnstable Fire Department protects an area of approximately 13.5 square miles with a year round population of approximately 3,500 citizens.

It also protects the Cape Cod Community College Campus with a student population of 6,000.

🌲 Training in the West Barnstable Conservation Area 🚒

Last night, members of the West Barnstable Fire Department trained in the West Barnstable Conservation Area, becoming more familiar with the extensive network of trails, paths, and access roads throughout the area.

Over the years, WBFD has responded to brush fires and medical emergencies within the conservation area. These incidents can present very different challenges from emergencies on a normal roadway.

Training like this gives our members an opportunity to learn the trails and access points before an emergency occurs and to practice operating in areas where traditional fire and EMS vehicles may have limited access.

If you are enjoying the conservation area, a few simple things can help us find you faster in an emergency:

📍 Know which trail or entrance you used and pay attention to trail markers and landmarks.
📱 Carry a charged cell phone.
👥 Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
🚨 If you call 911, provide as much information as possible about your location and remain in one place if it is safe to do so.

West Barnstable is fortunate to have such an incredible amount of conservation land and open space. Our job is to make sure we're prepared to respond when someone needs us — wherever that emergency happens.

West Barnstable Fire Department is proud to have received our VFC Grant through DCR Fire Control!

This grant helps departments purchase equipment to better prepare for and respond to wildland fires. This year, WBFD was able to purchase new trunking line packs to help crews reach hard-to-access fires, along with new brush gear to replace our aging equipment.

A big thank you to Deputy Morrison and Captain Moloney for their work on this grant and for helping bring these valuable resources to WBFD.

Yesterday, members of the West Barnstable Fire Department had a great time participating in Barnstable Kids Day! We enjoyed getting out in the community, meeting local families, and showing the kids some of the equipment we use every day.

Tuesday Training Night 🚒🔥

This week’s Tuesday drill, all crews worked with the Barnstable County Fire Rescue Academy on the roof prop, focusing on roof operations and the skills needed to safely and effectively operate on the fireground.

Crews also completed a refresher on our existing cutting tools, ensuring everyone stays familiar and proficient with the equipment we carry.

The West Barnstable Fire Department is proud to congratulate Captain Austin Moloney on achieving the CPSE Fire Officer Professional Designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence!

This nationally recognized designation represents a significant commitment to leadership, professional development, education, and excellence in the fire service. Only a relatively small number of fire officers nationwide have earned this distinction.

🚒 Training Night with Group 2!

Group 2 was out training on the leader line evolution, led by Lieutenant Steve Frye. The leader line is a valuable tool for reaching and extinguishing fires in areas that can be difficult to access with conventional hose lines.

WBFD recently received a new set of Paratech Rescue Struts that will soon enhance our vehicle stabilization capabilities during motor vehicle crashes and technical rescue incidents.

This equipment was purchased through a Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Equipment Grant, allowing us to continue improving the tools and resources available to our firefighters without placing the full cost on our taxpayers.

We would like to thank the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services for supporting this program, as well as Deputy Chief Morrison and Captain Austin Moloney for their assistance in preparing and securing this grant. Their work helped bring this valuable equipment to our department, and we look forward to placing it into service after training and implementation
