Good advice from the Department of Fire Services.

With warmer temps in the forecast again, remember to prehydrate and avoid heat-related illness if you're working, playing, or training outdoors. By the time you're thirsty, you've already got some catching up to do. Stay healthy! Stay hydrated!

πŸŽ‰πŸš’ Grant Award Announcement πŸš’πŸŽ‰

The West Barnstable Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding through the Volunteer Fire Capacity (VFC) Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and funded by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

This grant will assist the department in purchasing 10 sets of wildland gear (helmet, coat, pants,) 2 horseshoe hose packs, and 15 NWCG Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG.) This equipment will enhance our ability to protect the residents and natural resources of West Barnstable and our mutual aid partners (hand crew.).

The VFC Grant Program is a 50/50 matching reimbursement grant designed to support volunteer and combination fire departments in strengthening their wildland fire response capabilities.

We are grateful to Mass DCR and the USDA Forest Service for their continued support of the fire service and their investment in firefighter safety and community protection.

πŸš’ New Addition to WBFD’s Vehicle Extrication Equipment! πŸš’

WBFD recently added a TL-9 Stabilizer to our vehicle extrication equipment cache. This valuable tool enhances our ability to safely and efficiently stabilize vehicles during motor vehicle accidents, helping protect both patients and rescuers during extrication operations.

Pictured below is the TL-9 being put to use during a recent training session as our members continue to sharpen their skills and familiarize themselves with the latest rescue equipment.

Training with new tools ensures we are prepared to provide the highest level of service to our community when emergencies occur.

Tonight, WBFD members took part in a multi-company rural water supply drill, putting together the skills and techniques practiced throughout the month during our weekly trainings. The evolution focused on a mini water shuttle operation, an important capability for protecting homes and businesses in areas without hydrants.

A total of 32 full-time, part-time, and call firefighters were in attendance, continuing to dedicate their time to training and preparedness for the community we proudly serve. Drills like these help ensure that when residents call for help, our members are ready to work together efficiently and effectively
