The Washington County Sheriff's Office is located in West Bend, Wisconsin. Our Deputies and staff perform the following roles for this community:

*Enforce federal, state and local laws and ordinances;
*Investigate crimes Maintain order at civil proceed

*Transport prisoners to and from court;
*Assist the citizens of Washington County when requested for various non-criminal matters;
*Maintain a County Jail;

*Provide 911 Dispatch services to the citizens of Washington County including many of the municipalities for fire, rescue and police;
*Provide support to the citizens through the computerized record system;

*Operate the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Unit;
*Maintain Washington County SWAT Team;
*Maintain Washington County Dive Team;
*Provide D.A.R.E. and other educational and public relations programs

In addition to the above Deputy duties, the Washington County Sheriff's Office oversees the County Jail and the Juvenile Detention Center. With a Jail Administrator, Lieutenant, six Sergeants and 62 Corrections Officers, these facilities are providing safe facilities for inmates and security for our residents. Public Notice: Sheriff’s Office K-9 Calendar Sponsorship Campaign

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Law Enforcement Services with a fundraising campaign to support our three K-9 teams.

This effort involves the sale of advertising space in an agency calendar. Local businesses that choose to participate will receive advertising for their business on the calendar while also helping support the Sheriff’s Office K-9 program.

From Monday, August 31, through Friday, September 4, a Law Enforcement Services representative, Bill Lappa, may contact businesses by phone or visit businesses throughout Washington County. Mr. Lappa is authorized to represent this calendar sponsorship campaign on behalf of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Funds received by the Sheriff’s Office from Law Enforcement Services through this campaign will be set aside exclusively to support the future replacement of one of our K-9s who is approaching retirement. Although K-9 Ryker’s retirement has not yet been formally announced, these funds will be designated to help fund his replacement when his service is complete.

SUBJECT: Fatal Crash 26-31891

On August 29, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Washington County Communications Center received a 911 call of a motorcycle crash in the area of Highway 175 and Highway 164 in the Town of Polk. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office along with the Slinger Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the scene and located a female patient and a male patient. Lifestar Rescue and the Slinger Fire Department also responded. Lifesaving efforts were performed on scene but both patients died on scene. The victims were identified as a 29 year old Town of Polk woman and a 51 year old Town of Jackson man.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours while the Washington County Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Subject: Barn Fire, Case # 2026-31778

On Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 7:37 a.m., a passerby contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center to report a barn fire at 7758 Meadow Road in the Town of Farmington. The caller reported smoke and flames coming from the barn which had animals inside.

The Fillmore Fire Department was dispatched and quickly upgraded the incident to the 4th Box Level. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded and found the structure fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke throughout the area.

The following fire departments responded with personnel and equipment to assist the Fillmore Fire Department: Boltonville, Newburg, Kewaskum, St Lawrence, Jackson, Kohlsville, West Bend, Waubeka, Silver Creek, Fredonia, Random Lake, Saukville, Beechwood, Richfield, Grafton, Allenton, Hartford, Slinger, Campbellsport, Waubeka, Port Washington, Campbellsport, and Washington County Emergency Management.

Fire crews were assisted by Elbe Land and Water Management, which utilized heavy equipment to remove debris from the collapsed structure.

Meadow Road was closed for approximately four and a half hours to support firefighting operations. No injuries to firefighters or other emergency personnel were reported.

The barn, which included a milking parlor, was declared a total loss and several animals had to be euthanized. Damage is estimated to exceed $1 million. The fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Fillmore Fire Department. The fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 6:09 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire, at 5243 High Ridge Tr. in the Town of Trenton, Washington County. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, Newburg Fire Department and Newburg Rescue responded to the scene.

The homeowner called 911 and stated there was a fire in his basement and believed the dehumidifier was on fire. The homeowner successfully extinguished the fire using a household fire extinguisher. The residence quickly filled with black smoke. The homeowner and his wife safely evacuated the home.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and made entry to the residence to confirm the fire was out. Newburg fire personnel arrived on scene and verified the fire was extinguished and checked for any hot spots in the basement ceiling. Fire personnel removed burned debris from the basement including a heavily damaged dehumidifier, an extension cord, basement ceiling tiles and insulation. Newburg fire personnel ventilated the home to clear the smoke from the interior. The fire was contained to the basement workshop area.

The residence is a single-family home. The home sustained minimal fire damage to the basement but sustained significant smoke damage throughout the house. Estimated damage to the property is approximately $120,000.

The homeowner was transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. There were no injuries to first responders or fire personnel. The cause of the fire appears accidental, originating in the area of the dehumidifier.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information pursuant to WI Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a s*x offender’s release when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety, awareness and protection. The individual who appears on this notification has been convicted of a s*x offense.

Jaime A. Fletes Gonzalez will be released from prison on Aug. 25th, 2026. After his release he will reside at 1725 Cth NN in the Township of Jackson. In 2019 Jaime A. Fletes Gonzalez was convicted of 4 counts of Possession of Child Po*******hy. Jaime A. Fletes Gonzalez will be on probation until June 19th 2033. He will be monitored closely by WI-DOC Division of Community Corrections. Jaime A. Fletes Gonzalez will have numerous rules and restrictions to follow including wearing a live tracking GPS unit.

This s*x offender has served the prison sentence imposed on him by the courts. He is NOT wanted by law enforcement at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear, but rather it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public.

S*x offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until the S*x Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. More information can be located at https://appsdoc.wi.gov/public/faq

Subject: Fatal Vehicle Crash 2026-31100

Village of Richfield, WI - On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 10:10 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hillside Road and Pioneer Road in the Village of Richfield. Witnesses initially reported that one of the drivers was unconscious. Shortly afterward, a passing nurse reported that one of the male drivers had no pulse and that CPR was being performed.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Richfield Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Flight for Life was initially requested but was later cancelled. Upon arrival, deputies found both vehicles off the roadway. The driver of the northbound vehicle was trapped and was not breathing. The Richfield Fire Department arrived and took over lifesaving efforts before extricating the driver.

Both drivers and a passenger in the northbound vehicle were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The 83-year-old driver of the northbound vehicle, a Town of Polk resident, later succumbed to his injuries.

The initial investigation determined that the northbound vehicle being driven by the 83-year-old Town of Polk resident on Hillside Road, stopped at the intersection but failed to see an eastbound vehicle traveling on Pioneer Road, driven by a 72-year-old Suss*x resident, and entered its path.

The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Reconstruction Unit and the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The intersection of Hillside Road and Pioneer Road was closed for approximately three hours for crash reconstruction and cleanup. The Wisconsin State Patrol, Jackson EMS, and Lifestar Rescue also assisted at the scene.

Seban was convicted on 2 counts of Exposing a Child to Harmful Material. Bryan O. Seban will be on probation until Aug. 21st, 2032. He will be monitored closely by WI-DOC Division of Community Corrections. Bryan O. Seban will have numerous rules and restrictions to follow including wearing a live tracking GPS unit.

Case: Fatal Motorcycle Accident and Secondary Semi vs Mult-Vehicle Accident

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single motorcycle crash on I 41 southbound, north of Holy Hill Road in the Village of Richfield. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle had merged onto I 41 from Highway 45 when the driver lost control after rapidly accelerating. An off duty EMT/Firefighter from the Village of Jackson Fire Department was on scene and immediately began providing medical assistance. The Richfield Fire Department and Flight for Life also responded. Southbound traffic was shut down at Pioneer Road on both I 41 and Highway 45. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver, a 57 year old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. This crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

While deputies were investigating the initial incident, a secondary multi vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:58 a.m. on I 41 south of Scenic Drive in the Town of Polk. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received multiple reports that a semi truck had struck several vehicles that were slowing or stopped in traffic. One vehicle became vertically pinned between two semi trucks. The Slinger Fire Department and Lifestar Ambulance were dispatched. Flight for Life was again requested, along with heavy duty tow trucks and the Milwaukee Fire Department Heavy Urban Rescue Team, to stabilize vehicles and assist with safe extrication.

Four adults were transported by ambulance, and an infant was transported by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital. All sustained potentially serious injuries. A sixth patient self transported to a hospital for treatment. The secondary crash involved two semi trucks and four passenger vehicles. This incident remains under joint investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

All southbound lanes of I 41 remain closed at Highway K, with traffic diverted to Highway 175. Investigators anticipate the closure will remain in place until approximately 2:30 p.m. to accommodate scene investigation and cleanup.

Two major incidents occurring within a short time during morning rush hours placed significant strain on available emergency resources and required coordinated assistance from multiple public safety agencies. Mutual aid agencies included the Germantown and Slinger Police Departments, Washington County Highway Shop, the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Hartford, Allenton, Jackson, and Germantown Fire Departments. Washington County is fortunate to have strong public safety partnerships that allow for effective and efficient multijurisdictional emergency response.

Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Arrest on I-41

On August 8, 2026, at approximately 10:58 p.m., a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy was monitoring traffic on Interstate 41 north of Highway 167 when a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe was observed traveling 88 mph in a posted 70 mph zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on I-41 near Western Avenue. As the deputy was initiating the traffic stop, the deputy observed a small baggie being thrown from the driver’s side of the vehicle. The multicolored pressed tablets were recovered and field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

With assistance from the Grafton Police Department and its K9 unit, a free-air sniff was conducted around the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert. The search of the vehicle only resulted in locating open intoxicants.

The driver, a 44-year-old Racine man, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine. He has a previous conviction for possession with intent of distributing co***ne and is also on federal probation.

He was also cited for:
• Speeding on freeway, 16–19 mph over the limit
• Operating after suspension/revocation of registration
• Possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Grafton Police Department for its assistance.

This incident is another reminder of the importance of traffic enforcement. Sheriff Martin Schulteis stated, “proactive patrol is one of the most effective tools we have to keep Washington County safe. What may begin as a speeding violation or other traffic stop can uncover impaired driving, illegal drugs, wanted individuals, or other criminal activity. Our deputies are not just enforcing traffic laws — they are preventing harm, protecting families on our roadways, and removing dangerous substances before they can impact our communities.”

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
