I had a call today from someone who recently visited our page. She noted that some of the information was very dated. She didn't leave a call-back number so I can't call to tell her how right she is. I am able to type little updates like this - between lots of interruptions. But, unfortunately, I need help with keeping the rest of our information current. So, her call has inspired me to invite readers to contact me if they would like to help me with this. More and more people get their information on line & I would LOVE to have help getting the word out to the community about the activities (over 80 per month) we have going on here. I don't want anyone to miss out. So, if you were the person who called, I don't want to know unless you want to tell me. But if ANYONE reading this wants to take on the facebook calendar, call me at 335-4498. Help me join the 21st century.

There is an article in today's local newspaper talking about a scam involving senior centers. Apparently people are receiving letters asking for money after a senior center found itself in over $26,000 in debt. The letter talks about the center using their money to fight social security over some issue. I want you to know that our senior center never lobbies for any government issues. We are not in debt to anyone. The timing of this is bad because there have been recent articles about our senior center raising financial support for a move to a new location in 2016. These are separate issues. We are NOT in debt. We ARE trying to raise money for a move. If you have any questions or receive a request for money please contact our center before writing any checks. We can be reached at 262-335-4498.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, there will be an opportunity for seniors and their families to learn about options available when making health, personal and legal choices for the future. We are having a Mini-Resource Fair that will include experts on legal issues, mobility equipment, at-home assistance, and a variety of other resources. Don't wait until there is a crisis to discuss how things will be handled. Don't assume mom, dad or the kids don't want to talk about these things. Get the conversation started by stopping in at the Senior Center (401 E. Washington - just east of Indiana Ave, across from the county courthouse) between 9am and 1 pm. Twenty minutes may be the best use of your time!!! Call 335-4498 for more information. Come on your own. Come with your family. Just come!

October is a busy month at the Senior Center. We have a Flu Shot Clinic on October 7th. We have Bingo on Saturday, October 10 and Wednesday, October 14. There will be a Pot Luck dinner with Mystery Speaker (a very popular person will be our guest!). And we have a Halloween Party on - when else? - October 31st. Bill Sackett will be providing music for entertainment - but there will be games, contests and food, too, so put on that scary face you've been terrifying the neighbor kids with & join us for some fun. Call 335-4498 for details!

Our activities are $1 in most cases. (We also have a great group of Sheepshead players at 10 a.m. who would enjoy adding more players - no tension allowed! LOL)

Our June newsletter has arrived in the mail!! For those who do not subscribe, I want to be sure you know about our first ever(!) travel show on Wednesday, June 10th at 4pm. Mayflower will be here to tell attendees all about that "trip of a lifetime"! We will be featuring a river cruise on the Rhine! The trip is scheduled for 2016 so there is still time to save your pennies or buy lottery tickets. They are also going to tell us about a trip to Branson for the 2016 Christmas shows (November) and there is something about a trip in the northwest USA. So, if you have been waiting to see the USA or the world, start here, at the Senior Center, 401 E. Washington Street at 4pm - will try to have you back home for the 6 o'clock news! Call ahead to be included in a drawing! 335-4498.
