The Berlin Township Police Department would like to remind everyone of our participation in the BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM, a proactive initiative aimed at supporting drivers with Autism and communication disorders. This program is designed to enhance safety and ensure positive interactions between law enforcement officers and individuals during traffic stops.
Drivers will receive a special blue envelope to securely keep important documents, such as their driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance details, and emergency contact information. Additionally, the envelope provides officers with valuable communication tips, helping to reduce the potential for misunderstandings or escalation.
We also partner with the Camden County Prosecutors Office to bring the Special Needs Registry. This registry was created to help police officers and other emergency personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing this first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergent contact information, physical description, and a current photograph of the registrant.
We invite community members to pick up envelopes and learn more about the program at the Berlin Township Police Department, located at 135 NJ-73, West Berlin, NJ 08091 from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. If you have any questions or need further information about the program, please reach out to Lieutenant Childs at [email protected]. You can also email us with questions about the special need registry at [email protected]. Your participation in this initiative promotes understanding and safety within our community.
