Congratulations, Sergeant Andrew Winingham!

The West Blocton Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Andrew Winingham to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Winingham has consistently demonstrated the qualities we value most in our department: dedication, loyalty, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. His commitment extends beyond simply doing the job—he genuinely cares about the Town of West Blocton, the people we serve, and the officers he works alongside.

Through his hard work and dependable service, Andrew has earned the trust and respect of his fellow officers and has proven that he is someone the department can count on when it matters most. His loyalty to this department and dedication to our community have not gone unnoticed.

This promotion is both recognition of what he has already accomplished and an acknowledgment of the leadership and responsibility we know he will continue to demonstrate in his new role.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED BRING THEM HOME SAFELY

On July 28, 2026, the West Blocton Police Department received a missing-person report involving two of our senior citizens. Because of concerns for their health and safety, officers immediately began working to locate them.

Their vehicle was identified through our Flock Safety license plate reader system. Although officers were unable to reach the vehicle before it left the area where it had been detected, the information provided an important lead.

We then posted a public alert on Facebook. The post was shared more than 2,000 times almost immediately, and a citizen contacted us with information about having seen and spoken with the couple the previous evening.

That tip, combined with the Flock LPR information, allowed officers to make an emergency request for assistance from OnStar. Although the vehicle was equipped with OnStar, the service was not active. OnStar personnel were able to activate the system, establish communication with the couple and provide officers with the vehicle’s exact location near York, Alabama.

The couple had become lost and did not know where they were. An officer spoke with them and convinced them to pull over at the nearest business and wait for assistance. Our officer was less than an hour behind them and had been tracking their direction of travel through additional LPR detections.

The York Police Department dispatched an officer to locate the couple, check on their welfare and remain with them until our officer arrived. Local EMS also evaluated them as a precaution. Their family was contacted and arrived a short time later.

This successful outcome would not have been possible without law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, EMS personnel, OnStar representatives and members of the public working together to ensure that this couple returned home safely.

The West Blocton Police Department sincerely thanks everyone who shared the alert, provided information, offered prayers or assisted with the search.

🚨 MISSING PERSONS — PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED 🚨

The West Blocton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Victor Deerman, age 81, and his wife, Faye Deerman, age 79.

The couple was last seen leaving their residence in West Blocton during the afternoon of July 27, 2026. They were traveling in a:

White 2015 GMC Terrain
Alabama license plate: 7A001EX

Victor and Faye have not been seen or heard from in more than 24 hours. Both have medical conditions, including dementia, and may be confused or in need of immediate assistance.

PUBLIC WEATHER WARNING

The West Blocton Police Department is advising residents to use caution today, Thursday, June 18, due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and the potential for localized flooding. Weather conditions may also produce strong storms and an isolated tornado risk.

Please avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown. Watch for water over roads, downed trees, low visibility, and possible power outages.

Residents should keep phones charged, monitor local weather alerts, and have a safe place ready in the event a tornado warning is issued.

⚠️ DRIVER’S LICENSE CHECKPOINT NOTICE ⚠️

This evening, 14 May, 2026, officers with the West Blocton Police Department will be conducting driver’s license checkpoints start at approximately 5pm and continuing throughout the evening.

The purpose of these checkpoints are to promote roadway safety, ensure drivers are properly licensed, and encourage compliance with Alabama traffic laws.

Motorists are reminded to:• Carry a valid driver’s license• Ensure vehicle registration and insurance are current• Drive safely and responsibly
