By 1966, the Westacres Branch outgrew its former lodgings in the community's clubhouse. The library moved up the road to the location it now occupies--a building originally constructed as the Westacres Co-Op. The building had been boarded up before the library purchased and renovated it. The new branch opened in 1966 and has undergone two expansions since then. Can you guess what is currently housed in the original part of the building?

Maintenance projects are underway at the Main Library! Youth services carpeting is being replaced this week while the building is closed. The Drive-Up Window is open from 10-6 through Friday. The Westacres Branch remains open regular hours. Friends donation bins are closed.

Library staff members have personal interests across a wide range of fields!

Simone White, the library's shelving supervisor and recent History graduate of Wayne State University, had the exciting opportunity to present her published historical research in Paris earlier this summer. She participated on a panel at an international academic conference hosted by the Alcohol and Drugs History Society (ADHS).

Her research examines drug scare films of the 1930s and explores how these films reflected and influenced early American drug policy. It was a memorable opportunity to share her passion for classic film and 20th century American history with scholars from around the world.

The library's summer teen intern, Khailyn Townes, completed her last shift at the library today!

In addition to providing regular assistance across library departments, Khailyn spearheaded a project to facilitate the donation of books to Children's Village, a juvenile detention center in Oakland County. Yesterday, she presented her project to other library interns from around the state.

Khailyn will continue to serve as a liaison with students and faculty at WBHS on future library projects. We wish her all the best in her senior year!

We did it! 🎉 The community improved over last year's Summer Reading numbers! Here are some fast facts:

• 1,782 readers participated in Summer Reading this year--a 26% increase from last year!
• 39,553 reading hours were logged this summer! That means each participant read for an average of 20 minutes per day during the program.
• 31% of participants completed the program by reaching the top reading goal (50 hours for youth, teens and adults; 10 hours for those under age 5).

We're so proud of everyone who participated in Summer Reading this year. West Bloomfield is a community of readers!
