Japanese pachysandra

Japanese Pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis) is considered an invasive species in some regions, particularly in the northeastern United States. While not as aggressive as some other invasive plants, it can still spread quickly and displace native vegetation

We have a lot of this, so we will just keep an eye on it to keep it contained

Is it native?

No, Brunnera macrophylla, also known as Siberian bugloss, is not native to Massachusetts. It is an introduced species, meaning it was brought to the area by humans, and has now become established in the wild in some areas

Not considered invasive- so these will stay in our yard!

Siberian Bugloss or Forget-Me-Not, is not considered invasive in Massachusetts. It spreads by creeping rhizomes, forming a dense groundcover, but it does not disrupt native ecosystems or outcompete other plants, according to some sources

No, but not generally considered invasive - they have been in New England for a very long time, so they continue to have a home with us

Hosta undulata, also known as wavy-leaved hosta or one-striped wavy plantain lily. While hostas are not native to Massachusetts, they are a common garden plant in the area. Hostas are native to northeast Asia, specifically China, Japan, Korea, and the Russian Far East, and were introduced to Europe in the late 1700s and to America by the early 1800s.

Maybe? There is a debate!

The image shows Lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis), which, while debated, is considered by some sources to be native to Massachusetts. Other sources note it as native to Europe and Asia but naturalized in North America. It's a perennial herbaceous plant that spreads through underground stems.

Some say they aggressively propagate and choke out other plants - we only have a few and they are beautiful- they will stay, but we will keep an eye on them

Not native -invasive! These will be removed ASAP!!!

Garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) is an invasive, non-native herb native to Europe and Asia. It was introduced to North America in the 1800s for culinary, medicinal, and erosion control purposes.

Is it native?

Yes and not considered invasive- we plan to try to keep it under control, though-

Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) is a low-maintenance, woody vine native to eastern North America and Mexico.

While not invasive, Virginia creeper is a vigorous climber that can grow rapidly and cover large areas. This aggressive growth can sometimes be problematic, especially in managed landscapes or when it interferes with other plants.

Not native, but not invasive, flowers for pollinators, so they stay…

The plant in the image is likely a Midnight Wine Shine Weigela (Weigela florida 'Elvera'). This variety of Weigela is known for its dark purple foliage and compact size, typically reaching about 1 foot in height and 1.5-2 feet in width. While some Weigela varieties, such as the Old Fashioned Weigela, are considered invasive in certain regions, the Midnight Wine Weigela is not typically classified as invasive
