West Branch Commons Sidewalk:

As many can see the sidewalk that stretches in front of The Commons to the corner of M-76 just stops at the intersection.

West Branch Township Clerk Hickmott sat down with MDOT on how to correct this issue and how we could get The Commons Sidewalk to the Townships main non-motorized pathway system.

It was learned that the sidewalk can not cross right at the corner of M-76 and The business loop because of 4 lanes (two traffic, one turn, & left turn). It was suggested by MDOT that the sidewalk turn and go down the east side of the Business Loop to Flowage lake road where there is only three lanes.

The image attached is an initial concept / design for the sidewalk extension and proposed crosswalk. The idea includes a cross walk and a curb island where people wait if traffic is heavy in both lanes.

This is a similar concept used in multiple communities including Ga***rd. We will provide more information as the concept / design progresses.

Cooler temperatures are forecasted over the next 1-2 weeks. Unusual for June standards, but much welcomed regardless. Highs are expected in the mid to upper 70s and low 80s during this stretch.

Ogemaw County Fair and Arnold Amusements are offering a free event for individuals with developmental disabilities and their family to experience and enjoy the fair without worrying about anxieties and public perception.

Limited carnival rides with little to no lights and music will be available. Shirts will be required for the Sensory Friendly Rides. Please watch this page for updates. This event is subject to change.

The event will take place August 19, 2026. Pre-registration is required. Event itinerary and sign up link will be posted soon.

I’m cross-trained for a variety of scenarios, including search and rescue, narcotics interdiction, and evidence or cadaver location.
