I just filed an amicus brief with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court arguing that the MBTA Communities Act is a $4.4 billion unfunded mandate on our cities and towns. Massachusetts needs more housing. But we cannot force local communities to shoulder billions in costs while Beacon Hill threatens to withhold funding. As Lieutenant Governor, I’ll fight for fairness and accountability on Beacon Hill.

I had a productive meeting with West Bridgewater Fire Department Chief Thibeault to hear directly about the real needs of our first responders.

Across Massachusetts, local fire departments are being put in an impossible position by the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s approach to the MBTA Communities Act. Communities are effectively told that if they do not comply, critical grant applications from fire departments will be denied.

Holding public safety funding hostage is unacceptable. Our first responders should never be used as leverage in a state mandate, and as Lieutenant Governor, I will fight to put an end to it.

We are canceling our meeting this month. We have learned that there will be a town meeting this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. on the disastrous MBTA Communities Act. It is vital for our town to be well-informed about this act and its potential implications. The more knowledge we have, the better able we will be to oppose it effectively.

We strongly encourage everyone to attend this meeting, which will take place on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Middle-Senior High School auditorium.
