Five members of West Brookfield Emergency Management attended a class today in Grafton. The class was based on the Western Shelter which could be used in a temporary situation. The members are all volunteers and spend many hours training to assist the community when or if the need should arise.

West Brookfield Emergency Management is looking for more volunteers. Presently we have 11 active members that work hard assisting the community and neighboring communities in emergency events. These events maybe a natural disaster, weather event, fire, community involved event, traffic assistance and more. Members come from all backgrounds in life. Fire, Police, Military, Highway Department, Hair Stylist, Sales, Medical, EMS and or just Retired. We train and learn to help out the communities the best we can.

Don't let the first Heat Wave on the summer catch you off guard. The US National Weather Service Boston MA has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for June 22-24. The worst of the heat and humidity will be Monday and Tuesday when some locations may feel like 110 degrees.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for most of Southern New England except the Berkshires where a Heat Advisory is in effect. Heat impacts are expected Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. Heat index values will be near 100 degrees Sunday and rise to around 105-110 degrees Monday and Tuesday.

[Severe Weather Friday] Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible across portions of northern Connecticut and Massachusetts tomorrow mainly between 2 and 10 pm. The biggest risks from any severe storms will be damaging winds and localized flooding.
