Good morning,

As some of you may know I have decided to retire. I will be officially retired as of November 8, 2024.

Together we have made great strides. Since I have been here the Town has received over $300,000 in new grants. We have improved our budget process, developed a 5-Year Capital Plan, rebuilt the Town Website, hired a new Tax Collector/Treasurer and as people left, we hired great new staff members, The Leland Road Water Project is back on track, and we have made countless improvements to our town government. Kudos to the Board of Selectmen for their leadership and support.

The Town Administrator Position is critical to effective Town government.

With that said the Town is working with the Massachusetts Collins Center to help find a new Town Administrator and below is the link for the open position.

I thank you all for your support and I encourage you to continue to support this position long into the future.

Wishing this Town continued success long into the future. I did my best to make government more open and effective for you the citizens of this community. West Brookfield is a beautiful town with so many great people.

Ron

Subject: West Brookfield Police Department Staffing Crisis and Request for Community Support

Dear West Brookfield Community,

The West Brookfield Police Department is currently facing a critical staffing shortage that is impacting our ability to provide the highest level of service to our community. This issue is not unique to West Brookfield, as police agencies across the state and nation are faced with similar challenges.

Several factors have contributed to this crisis, including changes in state regulations regarding part-time police officers and the increasing demands on law enforcement agencies. These factors
have made it difficult to recruit and retain qualified officers, leading to a strain on our existing
staff.

All our officers have been working tirelessly over a prolonged period of time to maintain 24/7 coverage, often at the expense of their own health, well-being and time with their own families.
This unsustainable workload is not only affecting our department's operational capabilities but also the morale of our officers.
To address this situation, the police department has requested temporary assistance from the Massachusetts State Police to support our community during overnight shifts. We are grateful for
their willingness to step in and provide resources to our community.

We are also committed to finding long-term solutions to our staffing crisis. We are actively working to fill our vacancies and on how to best use our limited resources to hire an additional
full-time officer.

We understand that this is a challenging time for our community, and we appreciate your understanding and support. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress and any
updates on the situation.

Sincerely,
Chief Nathan Hagglund
West Brookfield Police Department **
