Looking for a way to support your local library? The Annual Friends of the Merriam-Gilbert Public Library Book Sale starts on Saturday. We will be having a special kickoff event starting at 9am with a special sharpie tie-dye activity! We will have garden flags to decorate, but we welcome you to bring white items of your own to decorate! If you can't make it on Saturday, the sale will run all month long during library open hours.

Calling all artists! We are looking forward to hosting a Community Art Show this summer! Our theme is "Plant a Seed, Read" to match Summer Reading.

Here is information from IREAD about the theme: "The 2026 IREAD Summer Reading theme is "Plant a Seed, Read" and is rooted in the concept of farm to table. A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. Both food and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology."

Submission Details:
We are looking for any and all types of art to be represented (e.g. drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, fiber arts, pottery, origami)
Artists may be of any age / skill level.
Art should match the theme: plants, farms, gardens, food, etc. Also, books!
Any artist can submit up to 2 works.

Timeline:
Submissions to be delivered to the Library during the week of June 21st (June 22 – June 27) during the Library’s regular hours.
Work should be display ready.
Any information that you would like displayed with the work should be included with the submission.
Art exhibit will end on Aug 24th. Work may be collected any time that week (August 24 – August 28) during regular library hours.

Our current Artists in Residence are the tremendous West Brookfield Elementary School Third Graders! In art class with Ms. Kelly Mundell, they learned about the work of Claude Monet and created their own pieces inspired by Monet. Stop by during library open hours through the end of the month to see their wonderful display!

We also invite you to join us on Tuesday, May 26th from 5-7pm for a special reception honoring the artists and their work.
