Recognizing Lisa Young of the St. Johnsbury Police Department.
This week marks the observance of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time to recognize Dispatchers for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety. Over the past year, the Vermont Emergency Dispatch Association has worked diligently to grow as an organization that supports Dispatchers across the state. Throughout this week, we are proud to highlight several Dispatchers from departments across Vermont who have been nominated by their colleagues for recognition.
In writing this commendation, Lisa’s colleagues shared with us that Lisa has served the town for many years as a dispatcher, mentoring and training countless individuals along the way—including many who still look up to her today. Safety of her responders is of paramount importance to Lisa and she's known to frequently check on them. She consistently puts others before herself and is known for being the calm, steady voice on the other end of the phone or radio, even in the most stressful situations. Just over a year ago, Lisa faced one of the most difficult moments imaginable while on duty, when a lifelong friend and officer was shot during an incident. Throughout it all, she demonstrated remarkable professionalism, courage, and strength. Despite the personal toll, Lisa continued to show up each day, remaining focused on supporting her agencies and ensuring the safety of her responders. Lisa is truly exceptional under pressure, but what makes her even more special is her kindness. She takes the time to check in on others, always offering a smile and a positive presence to those around her. On top of her Dispatching duties, Lisa is also a fingerprint technician serving her community by fingerprinting hundreds of teachers, childcare workers, coaches, foster parents, and volunteers.
Lisa, on behalf of the Vermont Emergency Dispatch Association, we thank you for your service!
