The City of West Burlington Public Works Department is looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team!

Starting Wage: $27.91/hour
Wage increase after successful completion of the six-month probationary period

What You'll Do
As an Equipment Operator / General Laborer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining and improving our community by:
🔹 Maintaining streets, water systems, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, parks, and public buildings
🔹 Operating heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and snow removal equipment
🔹 Performing snow removal, pothole repair, street maintenance, and infrastructure repairs
🔹 Assisting with water and wastewater system maintenance
🔹 Supporting tree care, building maintenance, and park improvements
🔹 Ensuring equipment and work sites are maintained safely and efficiently

Qualifications
✔ High School Diploma or equivalent
✔ Valid CDL with Air Brake Endorsement
✔ Ability to obtain Iowa Grade 1 & Grade 2 Water and Wastewater Certifications within required timelines
✔ Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
✔ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to emergencies when needed

Celebrate our nation's independence in downtown West Burlington with kids games, bounce houses, bike races, car display, art in the tent, patriotic parade, live entertainment, great food, bullfrog races, bingo, craft and vendor show, a OUR BIGGEST FIREWORKS SHOW EVER and lots more!

Headlining in 2026 is Wedding Banned! This interactive group plays tons of rad 80’s music and guilty pleasures you and your friends love, whether they'll admit it or not. It will be a show you won't want to miss!

The party starts at 6am with the pancake breakfast and continues all day. Don't forget to get your raffle tickets to win 1 of 4 huge prize packages, and to help us fund this free event!

The IDOT has moved the bridge closure, weather permitting.

🚧 Public Service Announcement – Traffic Counting in West Burlington 🚧

The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be in West Burlington June 14–18 conducting their annual Summer Traffic Count Program.

During this time, residents may notice temporary traffic counting equipment (such as rubber hoses) placed across roadways throughout the city. These devices are safe and help IDOT gather important data used for transportation planning and future improvements.

⚠️ Please use caution when driving and avoid disturbing the equipment if possible.

We appreciate your cooperation as IDOT works to collect this important information for our community!
