West Chester Historical Commission Part of the borough government, the Commission is an advisory group and much more. See "About" here

The historic commission is advisory in nature and is usually given the following kinds of responsibilities:
* Implement the historic preservation plan
* Identify local historic resources that may be in jeopardy
* Solicit gifts grants and money as appropriate for purposes of the ordinance
* Maintain the local survey of historic resources and update as needed
* Recommend the preservation of distric

* Prepare information and disseminate publications on local historic resources
* Serve as a liaison between preservation organizations both at the local level and with state and federal agencies
* If directed by the Council, represent the community on preservation matters at the regional state and nation levels

This exhibit opened a few days ago in our very own Chester County History Center. We haven't seen it yet but the American Battlefield Trust is one of the largest member-based nonprofits created around the time when our US Congress passed the endangered battlefield act. The group works to save historic battlefields (Civil War, Am Rev, and the War of 1810) from rampant development. They have helped to preserve many acres of the Brandywine Battlefield land as well.

we dont' have an exciting photo for this but it's PORCHFEST time!! (It's a free "strolling" event. Just walk the sidewalks and hear the different music selections. The event could also be called "Bands on the porches."

It's the free annual Chester County Studio Tour. The group "Downtown West Chester" has highlighted some of the open studios in the borough but you can also link to a downloadable map to see all the studios so you can plan your weekend.
