Stroud Preserve is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. Stroud Preserve is a mosaic of once-pastured grasslands, working farmlands, and woodlands that serves as a unique site for recreation, education, and scientific research. Here, you can see the needs of people and nature in balance as careful stewardship of both cultivated and “wild” areas restores vital wildlife habitat while also

protecting watersheds that provide drinking water for tens-of-thousands of people. Stroud Preserve is owned and managed by non-profit conservation organization Natural Lands.

Eagle Scouts recently came out and put down boardwalks in a notoriously muddy stretch of trail. The project was completed by Clif Beam for his Eagle Scout Service Project, alongside fellow scouts, friends, and family members of Scouting America West Chester Troop 93 🫡

Many thanks to all who came out and helped the preserve! We know this boardwalk will be put to good use...and perhaps sooner rather than later with this much-needed rain.

The name "milk snake" comes from an old myth that these snakes would sneak into barns to drink cow's milk. In reality, they are more interested in hunting rodents, which is why they are often found in agricultural areas.

Tree Swallows winter farther north than any other American swallows and return to their nesting grounds long before other swallows come back. They can eat plant foods as well as their normal insect prey, which helps them survive the cold snaps and wintry weather of early spring.
