Last week law enforcement from the West Chester area partnered with Special Olympics Pennsylvania to complete the 2cd Annual West Chester Home Town Torch Run (HTTR) to support Special Olympics. Alongside athletes, we carried the Flame of Hope from Henderson High School to West Chester University, where we held a pep rally to keep the energy high in advance of the Special Olympics Summer Games

This weekend, June 4 through 6, thousands of athletes, coaches, families, and friends representing all corners of Pennsylvania will participate in Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s annual Summer Games at Penn State University in State College, PA.

Good luck to all of the athletes!

Today, our department mourns the heartbreaking loss of Officer Kristen Yeager, who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a call for service on May 29, 2026.

Officer Yeager served our community with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She answered the call to protect and serve each day, placing the safety of others above her own. Her commitment to her badge, her fellow officers, and the citizens she served will never be forgotten.

We ask that you keep Officer Yeager’s family, friends, and our entire law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Officer Yeager. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of service and sacrifice will live on forever. We got it from here.

🖤💙 End of Watch: May 29, 2026

John O. Green served as Police Chief here in West Chester from 1976 until his death in 1999. After his death, a tree was planted in his memory at Fugett Park, to the rear of our police headquarters on Gay Street. Sadly, that oak tree had become diseased and had to be removed for safety reasons.

Happily, a new tree was planted prior to today’s removal of the original tree. It provided a great opportunity to remember Chief Green and to appreciate the circle of life.

Have a great weekend, West Chester! Enjoy the sunlight and take a moment to appreciate nature and enjoy yourself.

Distracted driving is dangerous driving. Please put the phones down and concentrate on safe driving. In Pennsylvania, “Paul Miller’s Law” prohibits holding or using cell phones while driving, even if stopped at traffic signals or stop signs. The law takes full effect on June 5, 2026, and violations can result in fines.

Thanks for helping to make the roadways safer for everyone!

🚔🚨️This week is National Police Week🚨🚔

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This week, thousands of people will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend memorial services, candlelight vigils, and special events to recognize fallen officers and support their families.

Locally, here in Chester County, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 11 holds a memorial service every year to honor and remember our fallen officers.

All of us at the West Chester Police Department wish to not only honor the sacrifice every fallen officer has made, but also the strength and sacrifice of their families and loved ones. 💙🚔🚨💙

A few weeks ago, our very own Sgt. McGeehan completed the comprehensive 3 course leadership development series put on by the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association. Sgt. McGeehan insisted on waiting until his plaque arrived before we commemorated his achievement with a photo.

We are incredibly proud of our sergeant, and of all the officers who have completed this important training. This is just another way we are striving to make West Chester safer and stronger!
