📚 With the new school year officially back in full swing, we are taking a moment to celebrate the amazing local high school seniors who dedicated their final month of summer break to the medical field! 🏥✨

Over the next several days, we’ll be sharing firsthand testimonials and highlights from our July Lexington Health Partners Program cohort. Funded by our generous donors, this program gives rising seniors an exclusive look into the fast-paced world of healthcare—from shadowing clinical teams to exploring vital support departments. 🩺💻

Before they turn their full focus to college applications and senior milestones, let’s look back at how these future leaders spent their summer preparing for a lifetime of purpose. It is with deepest sadness that we share news of the passing of Virginia Gates on August 28.

Virginia bravely shared her cancer story as the keynote speaker for the 2024 McDaniels Gala and as a panelist at the 2024 Women’s Night Out event, helping to raise awareness and raise funds for patients at Lexington Health Cancer Center. She joined the Foundation Board of Directors in 2025 and fully invested her heart and hands into our mission. She was a bright light who led by example - through advocacy, volunteerism, and philanthropy - and she inspired so many. Virginia offered support to every survivor she met and used her personal experiences to help guide new programs and resources in our Cancer Center. Her positivity, compassion, and selfless service have made lasting impacts that will benefit patients and families for years to come.

On behalf of the Foundation team, our Board of Directors, and our Lexington Health leadership, we extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to her husband, Larry, her two boys Lawson and Coleman, her beloved family and to the countless individuals across our community who knew her and loved her.
