Today, we pause as a community and as a fire service family to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a day of reflection. It is a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness demonstrated by those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy each day. Their commitment to something greater than themselves continues to inspire us in our own mission of service.

As firefighters, we understand the meaning of duty, sacrifice, and standing ready when called. We recognize and deeply respect those who answered their nation’s call and never returned home.

We extend our gratitude to the families who carry the memory of their loved ones and whose strength endures beyond their loss.

Today, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

From all of us at West Danby Fire, may we carry forward their legacy with gratitude, service, and remembrance.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Southeastern Seneca County in central New York...
Northern Schuyler County in central New York...
Northwestern Tompkins County in central New York...

* Until 530 PM EDT.

* At 503 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Reading Center, or near Watkins Glen, moving east
at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado and hail up to two inches in diameter.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

Burdett, Reynoldsville, and Mecklenburg around 510 PM EDT.
Enfield and Perry City around 515 PM EDT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

Members of the West Danby Volunteer Fire Department recently trained alongside Danby Volunteer Fire Company and Candor Fire Department with Meridian Fire Training Solutions LLC.

This hands-on training focused on water and ice rescue techniques, helping ensure we’re prepared for emergencies in all conditions.

We appreciate the opportunity to train together and continue building strong partnerships with our neighboring departments. It’s training like this that keeps us ready for any situation.
