Over the weekend we had someone on a 4-wheeler with cart, remove gravel leaving a pit in the Boggs Township parking lot. The gravel and other aggregates around the building or in our holding area is not to be taken. This is being used for the current tar and chip project, drainage and other road repairs. With your tax dollars we work within a very tight budget to keep the roads in good repair. If need be, further action will be taken.

PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance Work Schedule for the Week of September 15

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Clearfield County the week of September 15. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in Clearfield County for the coming week is as follows:

Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

Route 4018 (Tyler Road) at a bridge spanning Bennett Branch in Huston Township. Monday, September 15. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 255 at a bridge spanning Wilson Run in Huston Township. Tuesday, September 16. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.

Crack Seal & Hot Pour Mastic

Route 453 between the Blair-Clearfield County line and Route 253 in Gulich Township. Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 729 between Route 253 in Gulich Township and Route 3022 (Ansonville Road) in Jordan Township. Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Crack sealing and hot pour mastic operations prevent water intrusion from seeping through cracks or joints in an asphalt road, which can lead to potholes and pavement breakup. They are proactive preventive maintenance strategies to prevent water from entering the roadways and accelerating the formation of potholes and other failures.

Manual Patching

Route 865 between Route 53 in Coalport Borough and the Cambria-Clearfield County line in Beccaria Township. Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 3012 (Front/Market Street) between Route 53 and Route 3005 (St. Lawrence Road) in Beccaria Township. Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Most permanent pothole patching is completed in the spring/summer when temperatures stay consistently above freezing. If maintenance crews were not repairing potholes, the road surface would break up further and require more expensive corrective measures.

Pipe Replacing & Cleaning

Route 322 between Route 119 (Blinker Parkway) in Sandy Township and Route 219 (Watson Highway) in Brady Township. Monday, September 15, through Wednesday, September 17. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 322 between Road 219 and Bearfield Road in Brady Township. Monday, September 15, through Wednesday, September 17. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 3008 (Lyleville Road) between Cemetery Road and Route 53 in Beccaria Township. Tuesday, September 16, and Wednesday, September 17. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 3005 (Irvona Road) between Dorsey Avenue in Irvona Borough and Route 969 in Greenwood Township. Wednesday, September 17, through Friday, September 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Route 3009 (McGees Mills Road) between Route 410 in Brady Township and Rock Springs Road in Bell Township. Thursday, September 18, and Friday, September 19.

Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements. Uncontrolled water flow will damage both the pavement surface and the area under the pavement, which causes deterioration across the length of the pipe.

This schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions.

Customers can report road concerns by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD. If calling after hours, please leave a name and phone number.

Last Round of Surface Treatments in Clearfield County Announced

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the last round of surface treatment operations, more commonly known as “oil and chip,” impacting roads in Clearfield County are slated for next week. This maintenance treatment seals the road surface to keep water out, restores the friction of the surface to enhance traction, and extends the pavement life between resurfacings.

Weather permitting, PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance crews plan to adhere to the following schedule while conducting these operations:

Monday, September 8:

Route 2027 (Mineral Springs Road) between Route 2024 (Dimeling Road/Pleasant Hill Road/Old Erie Pike) in Boggs Township and Route 2030 (Bigler Cutoff Road) in Bradford Township.
Route 2028 (Long Run Road) between Route 2027 (Mineral Springs Road) and Route 2049 in Boggs Township.
All of Route 2030 (Bigler Cutoff Road) in Bradford Township.

Monday, September 8, and Tuesday, September 9:

All of Route 1012 (Shiloh Road) in Bradford Township.

Wednesday, September 10, and Thursday, September 11:

Route 2002 (Utahville Road) between Route 53 and Route 866 in Beccaria Township.
All of Route 2042 (Dillon Road) in Beccaria Township.

Friday, September 12:

Route 3015 (Naulton Road) between Bailey Road in Curwensville Borough and Route 3032 (Shadybrook Drive) in Pike Township.

Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours while completing the surface treatment operations. PennDOT urges drivers to reduce their speed on roads that have received this treatment during the curing period or to consider alternate routes.

Several of these roads were scheduled for surface treatments the week of September 1, but work was delayed due to weather.

PennDOT typically employs surface treatments as a preservation strategy on roads with low traffic volumes and speed limits of 35 mph or slower. This activity extends the life of those roads by keeping water out, which mitigates the damage caused by the freeze-thaw cycle of Pennsylvania winters and delays the formation of potholes and the oxidization process.

In recent years, PennDOT District 2 has expanded its use of seal coating to roadways with higher traffic volumes and speed limits of 55 mph or faster as it strives to effectively manage and preserve its assets while being good stewards of taxpayer money.

PennDOT performs this activity in temperatures greater than 60 degrees, generally between April and September. Crews begin by sweeping the roadway clean of debris. Next, they apply emulsion oil and a layer of stone, which they then roll into place using a roller. Once cured, crews sweep any loose material from the roadway.
