West Dundee Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

West Dundee Police, IL – The West Dundee Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

During July’s National Speed Awareness Month Campaign, the West Dundee Police Department issued 93 citations for speeding, 6 for non-insurance, 1 for driving while license suspended, and 1 for driving while licensed revoked.

These statistics are specifically limited to enforcement activity during a handful of special assignments that were part of an effort administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation utilizing federal highway safety funds.

Thanks to everyone who chooses to drive safely today and every day.

The West Dundee Police Department is participating in the National Speed Awareness Month Campaign throughout the month of July. As a part of the month long campaign, July 22nd is recognized as Speed Awareness Day. Officers participating in the Speed Awareness Day detail issued 20 speeding citations and 1 insurance violation. The results shown here are limited to the officers assigned to work the detail on that day.

An increased officer presence will continue through the month of July focused on speed enforcement. This effort is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by The Illinois Department of Transportation.

Speeding might save you a minute or two but slowing down could save a life. Thanks to everyone who chooses to drive safely today and every day.

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists released their annual DUI survey, and for the second consecutive year the West Dundee Police Department helped lead the way in DUI enforcement with 80 arrests in 2025. WDPD ranked #53 in the entire state (there are more than 800 law enforcement agencies in Illinois), and WDPD was #1 among police departments with fewer than 25 officers.

The West Dundee Police Department joined more than 200 other state and local law enforcement agencies in Illinois conducting the “Click It or Ticket” safety campaign that ran from June 19th through July 6th. WDPD issued eight seatbelt citations as part of this state-funded initiative.

While these efforts specifically targeted seatbelt use, traffic stops made during seatbelt enforcement operations also included one citation for distracted driving and three speeding citations. (It is important to note these statistics only reflect activity specific to the IDOT seatbelt grant and do not represent overall traffic enforcement. For example, the police department conducted more than 300 traffic stops in June alone).

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. These efforts are complemented by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which emphasizes the serious consequences of impaired driving and other unsafe driving behaviors.
