Officer Oldham and K-9 Thor were on patrol when they spotted a group of young residents setting a great example by wearing their helmets while biking!

They were all issued a sweet "citation" for a free ice cream cone from Dairy Queen for their excellent bike safety! 🍦

📅 ALERT:

The West Fargo Police Department is excited to announce a new, revised plan for the annual Night to Unite event, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4. This year, the department is inviting community members to host and register their own neighborhood block parties, cookouts or casual gatherings from 5-7:30 p.m.

During this time, first responders from the West Fargo Police and Fire Departments will visit the registered block parties. Official event registration is now open and can be completed through the department’s website by visiting: https://ow.ly/Pslq50Z7ioY

“Night to Unite is a great opportunity for our officers to interact with the public and highlight the great partnerships we have throughout our community,” said Chief Pete Nielsen. “We decided to give this annual event a refresh and focus on more intentional conversations in the hearts of our West Fargo neighborhoods.”

Once neighborhoods have registered with the department, their location will be added to a public list. A party packet will be available for pickup in early July, which includes a Night to Unite newsletter, resources and materials to share with neighbors and details about a chalk art contest. Registered block parties will also receive a Night to Unite yard sign.

Community Reminder:

We would like to remind residents and parents that motor bicycles that can travel at speeds greater than 30 mph require a motorcycle endorsement. Our officers have seen an influx of juveniles riding e-motorcycles or electric motocross bikes that exceed speeds of 30 mph in a reckless manner throughout residential neighborhoods.

Meaning – if the electric motocross bike is capable of speeds beyond e-bike classes, or lacks pedals, it needs to be treated as a motorcycle. This includes proper permits for the driver, with proper licensing, registration and insurance for the vehicle.

For more information regarding what is classified as a motorcycle and motorized bicycle/scooter, please visit the North Dakota Department of Transportation's website: https://ow.ly/qcXz50Z6ljr

Inspiring future K-9 Handlers! 🐾

Officer Koropatnicki and K-9 Q were honored to receive a heartfelt letter from Erin, a student at Cheney Middle School.

Erin shared her goals of becoming a K-9 handler, her research on K-9 Q, and her support for our department. Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Erin and her class, where she met K-9 Q and watched a demonstration.

Thank you, Erin, for your amazing letter! We look forward to seeing you in uniform with a K-9 partner of your own someday! 🌟
