🚒 Fire Training Chief
Are you ready to lead our training initiatives? As the Fire Training Chief, you'll be at the forefront of coordinating fire, EMS and emergency response training programs. This key position involves developing comprehensive training plans, ensuring adherence to local and federal standards, and supervising our dedicated department instructors.

🚒 Firefighter/EMT - Lateral
Join our team as a Firefighter/EMT! In this role, you'll be on the frontline, responding to fires, medical emergencies and hazardous incidents. You'll also conduct fire prevention inspections, maintain our equipment, train new firefighters and engage in community outreach to promote safety and preparedness.

The school buses are rolling, backpacks are packed and first-day smiles are lighting up the halls!

As you ease into the new school year, keep these important safety tips in mind:
🎯 Practice Your Escape Plan: Ensure your family knows two ways out of every room and has a designated meeting spot outside.

🚪 Keep Exits Clear: Backpacks, shoes and other clutter should never block hallways, stairs or doors.

🔋 Charge Safely: Always unplug lithium-ion batteries if you're away from the unit.

📞 Know When to Call 911: Make sure your kids know their address and understand that 911 is for emergencies only.

🛠️ Test Smoke Alarms Monthly: Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.

🚒ALERT:

At approximately 3:44 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, the West Fargo Fire Department responded to the 400 block of 29th Court NW for reports of a gas leak.

Upon arrival, crews detected high levels of carbon monoxide and other chemicals coming from a commercial warehouse. In response, mutual aid was requested from the Fargo Fire Department’s Southeast Regional Hazardous Materials Team, given the chemical nature of the warehouse.

The Hazmat team identified the potential sources of the leak and ventilated the structure to ensure safety. There is no risk to the general public regarding this incident. There were no injuries to emergency personnel, residents or bystanders.

The West Fargo Fire Department was assisted by the West Fargo Police Department and Fargo Fire Department.

Crews got to work practicing their ventilation skills on a simulated live structure fire. This crucial practice involves safely releasing trapped heat, smoke, and toxic gases from burning buildings. Effective ventilation helps prevent dangerous fire behavior, enhances visibility and air quality, and enables firefighters to locate victims and the source of the fire more efficiently, ultimately reducing structural damage.

Our diligent training prepares us to tackle fires effectively and safely whenever duty calls, ensuring our community remains protected.🚒💪

🔥ALERT:

At approximately 4:29 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, the West Fargo Fire Department responded to the 500 block of 6th Street E. for reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames coming from a lithium-ion battery that appeared to have exploded while on the charger located in the kitchen of the residence. Crews quickly extinguished the flames and ventilated the structure of the smoke. The cost of damages is yet to be determined.

The West Fargo Fire Department reminds residents of the following safety tips when using lithium-ion batteries:
• Never leave a charging unit unattended.
• Always unplug lithium-ion batteries if away from the unit.
• Ensure the battery is UL-approved.
• Only charge the battery for the recommended duration.
• Avoid manipulating or altering batteries or charging systems.
• Charge in a well-ventilated area with three feet of clearance on all sides.
• Charge scooters and e-bikes outdoors and away from combustibles.

The West Fargo Fire Department was assisted by the West Fargo Police Department. There were no injuries to residents, bystanders or emergency personnel. No residents will be displaced due to the fire.

As the Fire Training Chief, you will lead and coordinate all fire, EMS, and emergency response training programs. You'll collaborate with the Fire Chief on strategic initiatives and represent the department on various committees.

Join us as a Firefighter, where you'll respond to fires, medical emergencies and hazardous spills, while also conducting fire prevention inspections. This role involves maintaining equipment, training new firefighters and engaging in community outreach to ensure safety and preparedness.

🔥ALERT:

At approximately 2:32 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, the West Fargo Fire Department responded to the 900 block of 9th Street E. for reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews discovered smoky conditions in the basement of the residential structure.

Crews quickly shut down power to the electrical panel and began to ventilate the smoke caused by the electrical fire. The initial cause of the electrical fire remains under investigation, with the cost of damages yet to be determined. Crews remain on scene to monitor until Xcel Energy arrives. No residents will be displaced due to the fire.

The West Fargo Fire Department was assisted by the West Fargo Police Department and Southern Valley Fire and Rescue.

There were no injuries to bystanders or emergency personnel.
