Our Glo Bingo fundraiser is coming up Saturday, August 29th, at the Orient American Legion, and we want to take a moment to recognize the wonderful businesses, organizations, families, and individuals who have stepped up to sponsor our games!

We certainly ask a lot of our community throughout the year, and we never take that generosity for granted. In fact, there are some of our longtime supporters we didn't even reach out to for this event simply because they have already done so much for us and for the seniors we serve.

We are incredibly fortunate to live in a community that continues to show up for our seniors. Whether it's through sponsorships, donations, volunteering, attending our fundraisers, or simply supporting our local businesses, every bit of that support makes a difference.

WEST FRANKFORT — HELP ME BLOW THIS POST OUT OF THE WATER!

Today reminded me just how blessed we are to have amazing people and organizations right here in our community.

Thanks to the city of West Frankfort, Mayor Arview and all the council members, along with some very generous donors right in the area, our new walk-in freezer and cooler are being installed this week. With that installation, we suddenly found ourselves needing a safe place for nearly $10,000 worth of frozen food, food that will ultimately help feed seniors throughout Franklin County.

Crosswalk had already graciously offered us freezer space, but when unexpected electrical issues came up, Kroger of West Frankfort stepped in without a second of hesitation. Before I could even finish explaining the situation, Jordan (Kroger General Manager) said, “Bring what you have over and we’ll store it for as long as you need.” Shelby even met us at the back door to help unload.

And Crosswalk? They’re now working on getting their freezer repaired so they can still help us if needed!

A HUGE thank you to Jordan, Shelby, Carrie at Krogers, Nicky at Crosswalk, Michelle, Leigh and Iris (My go to peeps for advice), and M&M and Aether (FCSS) for helping me transport it all. You all jumped into action without hesitation and helping us when we needed it most. You truly saved the day, and potentially saved us from losing thousands of dollars in food meant for our seniors.

Ameren is hosting a Workshop in Marion on Wednesday, September 16th. Eligible Ameren customers will earn a $200 credit toward their account.

Pet Food Distribution was another great success! We were thrilled to help approximately 36 seniors who stopped by to pick up food for their beloved pets, and we also delivered several hundred pounds of pet food to our home delivered meal clients throughout Franklin County.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported this mission. Your generosity helps ensure that seniors don't have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their faithful companions. We hope this assistance provides a little peace of mind and reaches those who need it most.

If donations continue to come in throughout the month of August, we fully expect to hold another pet food distribution next month. Every donation makes a difference and helps us continue this much needed program for seniors and their furry companions. Thank you again for helping us care for both our seniors and the pets they love!

We had a couple of pretty special visitors stop by the Wit & Wisdom Senior Center today!

Marcia Raubach and Leigh Caldwell stopped in to present us with a generous $500 donation on behalf of the Old King Coal Festival Committee. We are incredibly grateful for their kindness and support.

Old King Coal is a treasured West Frankfort tradition that has brought families and friends together for generations. Every year, the festivities right outside our Senior Center fill the community with excitement, fun, and hometown pride.

We're honored that the Old King Coal Committee thought of our little center and chose to invest in the seniors we serve. Donations like this help us continue providing meals, activities, outreach, and so much more to older adults throughout our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Marcia, Leigh, and the entire Old King Coal Festival Committee for your generosity and for all you do to make West Frankfort such a special place.
