This afternoon at approximately 1450hrs, members of the Lake Mishnock Fire Department were dispatched alongside West Greenwich Fire Department #1 and WGEMS to Weaver Hill Rd for a reported pickup truck fire. Chief 203 arrived on scene first and confirmed a working vehicle fire.

Tanker 1 arrived shortly thereafter, with crews stretching a handline and quickly beginning extinguishment operations. Personnel from both departments worked seamlessly together to bring the fire under control and prevent extension to nearby brush.

Once the fire was fully extinguished and the scene was made safe, crews packed up equipment and returned to service.

To the ones answering the calls at 3AM.
To the ones walking into chaos with calm voices and steady hands.

🔥 PUBLIC NOTICE 🔥

Just because we received rain does not mean open burning is automatically allowed. Residents are still required to obtain a valid burn permit through the fire department before any outdoor burning takes place.

Weather conditions, wind, ground conditions, and state regulations are all taken into consideration when determining if burning is safe. Even after rainfall, fires can quickly spread and become dangerous.

Please do your part to help keep our community safe and always check with the fire department before burning. Unauthorized burning may result in fines or emergency response activation.

If you have any questions regarding burn permits or current burning conditions, please contact the department before lighting any fire.

🚫 NO OPEN BURNING AT THIS TIME 🚫

Due to current conditions, all open burning is prohibited until further notice.

Dry weather, wind, and low humidity significantly increase the risk of brush fires spreading quickly and becoming dangerous. Even small fires can get out of control in seconds.

We ask all residents to:
• Refrain from any open burning
• Properly dispose of smoking materials
• Avoid activities that could create sparks

Our crews have been actively responding to brush fires, and we need everyone’s cooperation to help prevent additional incidents.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe. 🚒🔥

REMINDER… when able to burn please obtain a burn permit. You can get one by contacting the fire department.

Overnight, our duty crew returned to the scene of yesterday’s brush fire to check on conditions. Upon arrival, crews encountered moderate smoke and requested PD to assist with a drone for a better aerial view. The drone confirmed several remaining hotspots, but nothing of major concern at this time. Crews will be heading back out later this morning to continue extinguishment and begin cleanup operations.

Brush Fire Response

Earlier this afternoon, members responded to a large-scale brush fire that quickly spread through heavy woods and slash.

Faced with dry conditions, shifting winds, and difficult terrain, crews worked aggressively to contain the fire using a combination of hand lines, brush units, and extensive overhaul operations. Access into the area was limited, requiring off-road apparatus and manpower to reach the seat of the fire.

Thanks to the quick actions and coordination of our members, the fire was brought under control and prevented from extending further into surrounding woodland.

🚒 Crews will remain in the area and the fire will continue to be monitored overnight to ensure no flare-ups occur.

This incident is a reminder of how fast conditions can change this time of year. Even small burns can escalate rapidly.

⚠️ Please avoid any outdoor burning during dry conditions and report smoke or fire immediately.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our mutual aid partners who assisted on scene:
West Greenwich 1, HianLoLand, West Greenwich EMS, Hopkins Hill Fire, Western Coventry, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Union, Exeter 1 & 2, RI DEM, RI EMA, and Providence Canteen.

Your support and teamwork are what make operations like this successful.

Stay alert. Stay prepared.
