Please see the following information provided by the Regional PD. We are seeing more of this e-bike activity downtown and parents should be aware of the laws surrounding operation of the bikes.

We have received a few complaints regarding Electric powered bikes and scooters, specifically in the boroughs. While we understand it is getting nice out and kids do need to put down the cell phones(which we agree with), we thought parents would like to be able educate their children on the actual laws and guidelines surrounding these rides to help prevent accidents. Below is a fact sheet and link to laws.

PA VEHICLE CODE electric Scooter Motorized Pedalcycle Motor Scooter Segway e-Bike Bicycle § 102 § 102, § 3523(e), § 1714 § 102, § 3525 § 102, § 3581-3583, ... Electric scooters, like electric skateboards and electric unicycles, cannot be legally operated on public roadways.
