Recap on 9/9/23 Structure Fire, 11 Merrifield Lane Colrain.

After investigation by the Colrain Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police Fire Marshall’s Office cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.

This fire brought mutual aid units beyond our 3rd alarm bringing 13 tankers, 6 engines, 2 ladders, to the scene in addition to Colrain units, as well as at least 2 engines that staged in Shelburne Falls to cover the West County during the fire and 1 rescue Covering the Colrain Station. This became a very complex water supply operation due to the narrow tight roads and bridges. 2 water fill sites were established at the intersection of Thibodeau Rd and Heath Rd and Wilson Hill Rd at Adamsville Rd providing a estimated 200,000 gallons of water to the fire shuttled by at least 13 tankers. Multiple dump tanks were setup at Merrifield Lane at Maxam Rd for tankers to offload their water and a relay pump operation consisting of engines from Halifax Vt, Heath, Northfield and Colrain pumped water to the scene to supply Colrain E2 and 2 ladder trucks from Shelburne Falls and Turners Falls.

All Colrain units returned to service at 2000 hrs.

We would like to take the time to thank the following agencies that provided aid Saturday. This is one of the largest mutual aid fires in recent time and one of the largest tanker shuttle operations in the county.
