Evelyn Mantilla, Principal is a respected leader, trainer and public speaker with over 20 years of experience in social, political and business change! Mantilla is the owner of Mantilla Leadership Solutions, an independent consulting firm providing strategic communications, outreach, campaign, training and public speaking services. She is a respected leader who served in the Connecticut General As

sembly as a State Representative for 10 years (1997 – 2007). She was the first openly bisexual woman in the Connecticut General Assembly and was also the first Hispanic woman to serve as Deputy Majority Leader of the House. Mantilla has spent her professional career working on civil rights and equality issues – particularly focusing on her work with disenfranchised communities. During her tenure as a legislator, she represented an urban district with an overwhelming majority of Latinos / Puerto Ricans – a district with one of the highest populations living in poverty in the state. In addition to her legislative work, Ms. Mantilla has worked as an advocate for women’s rights and as a small business owner consulting to nonprofits and electoral campaigns. She has served on numerous boards, commissions and public committees, and uses her unique combination of talents, bilingualism and activist experience to be an advocate for social justice. Mantilla was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico and came to Connecticut in 1978. She lives in West Hartford with her wife and two children.

Connecticut has lost a great servant.

I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of our friend and former colleague Sen. Mary Daugherty Abrams. Smart, funny and courageous are just a few of the words I would use to describe her. Just a lovely person to be around and an all around good egg. Mary served in many different capacities throughout her life. Her community and our state is better for it. Rest in Peace Mary and thank you for being in our lives.
