Thank you so much to Marjan Kamali and all of our wonderful patrons who attended her talk on Thursday. Marjan was amazing and we are grateful she came, and for everyone who continues to support the little library that could.

Also thank you to Dennis Public Market for providing the delicious food, Shaws for the Lion Women of Tehran cake and Below the Brine Bookshop for being there to sell Marjan's books!

Just a reminder that this coming Wednesday, March 11th at 12pm, Timothy Walker, Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, will be at Chase. His book Sailing to Freedom highlights little-known stories of freedom-seeking by sea and describes the less-understood maritime side of the Underground Railroad.

This talk will explore the importance of enslaved African Americans’ labor in southern ports, and how their escapes were managed along the East Coast, moving from the Carolinas through Virginia, and Maryland to safe harbor in northern cities.

The talk is free to attend.

Thank you and see you soon!

Hi all,

Just a reminder of the talks we have coming this month at Chase. The first one is this coming Tuesday, March 3rd. Kathy Eldredge, one of the first female firefighters on Cape Cod, will be here to talk about her experience as a woman in a very male-dominated field.

On Wednesday, March 11th, Timothy Walker, Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, will be at Chase. His book Sailing to Freedom highlights little-known stories of freedom-seeking by sea and describes the less-understood maritime side of the Underground Railroad. This talk will reconsider and contextualize the importance of enslaved African Americans’ maritime and waterfront labor in southern ports, and how escapes were managed along the East Coast, moving from the Carolinas, Virginia, and Maryland to safe harbor in northern cities such as Philadelphia, New York, New Bedford, and Boston.

Both talks will be held at Chase Library and are free to attend, but we ask that you sign up in advance so we know how many are coming.

Thank you and see you soon!

With a heavy heart we regret to inform you that our longtime board member and dear friend Carol Dickerson passed this week. Carol was a cherished member of our team for 20 years. She loved reading and was always open to trying any kind of book. Never one to hold her tongue, she was quick to call out “fluff” and lean into more profound and evocative material.

She spent years compiling a history of Chase Library into an impressively well-written body of work which is available to read at our library. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Chase Library will close at noon this Saturday, February 21st, to allow for the family of Carol Dickerson to celebrate Carol’s life in a place she loved.

Chase Library patrons are welcome to stop in at the library between 2-2:30 pm on Saturday to meet Carol’s family members. At 2:30, the family will hold their private celebration.
