What tips and tricks do you use to outsmart the fish when you're out on the water? Maybe it's the way you jiggle your line, or the lucky lure you put on?

A double-crested cormorant like the one below is a visual hunter. They use their fast reflexes to dive in and chase fish. They don't need treble hooks to catch their prey, their hooked bill helps grab a slippery fish and take it apart for their shore lunch.

We've all watched a movie with bad acting. However, killdeer deliver an Oscar worthy performance. To defend their nest and growing young, the adult will often act as if they have a broken wing in the hopes of drawing activity away. It's hard to survive year to year, especially when you're a bird nesting on the ground. Species survival often depends on giving the next generation the best chance- even at the cost of your own.

Did you know what you wanted to be growing up? Was a park ranger on the list? Ranger Lacey & Ranger Brandon did a career day with Hilliard's Ridgewood Elementary School recently. Even if these students aren't prospective park rangers- they still got to have a great day learning about some of our local wildlife.
