At approximately 7:47 PM Today November 8, 2025 the West Jefferson Police Department received a call for a bomb threat in the area of downtown west jefferson, officers quickly checked and secured the area unable to locate the vehicle or subject which was described. Throughout the past couple hours officers have been checking the area. There is no active threat at this time.

We’ve noticed a lot of questions regarding Christmas in July and the Fourth of July celebration and would like to clarify a few things!

The Christmas in July festival will begin Friday evening at 5PM and will be on North & South Jefferson Avenue and not solely the Backstreet as it has been the last few years!

However we’re asking for your help, all vehicles need to be removed from the main “drag” of North and South Jefferson Avenue as well as adjoining parking lots. Our Officers have posted parking notices throughout the week and will continue to do so tonight for alternate parking and more accurate times for when vehicles can return to those parking areas.

The festival will continue all day Saturday and we look forward to seeing everyone there.

The fireworks show on the Fourth will again be in West Jefferson on the ridge running alongside U.S 221. Parking will be accessible at most of the businesses as well as the Ashe County Highschool.

We hope that provided some clarification and we look forward to seeing you guys during the action packed weekend!
