๐ Advocacy in Action ๐
Yesterday, I posted about a trip I made to the White House. Today, I wanted to highlight one of several trips I made to the halls of Congress.
I had the profound honor of testifying before Congress to reauthorize the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Protection Act. Our local JDAI (Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative), which is a collaborative effort that has made a tremendous impact on improving outcomes for our local youth who have been in contact with the Juvenile Justice system, relies on funding that stems from the JJDPA.
This work involved many different stakeholders and is a great example of how cooperation and teamwork can make a difference.
Advocacy work is the lifeblood of creating safer, stronger, and more equitable communities. By voicing the challenges and needs of our local communities at higher platforms, we bridge the gap between grassroots concerns and national policies, ensuring that solutions are tailored to those who need them the most.
Each one of us has the power to bring about change. It starts with identifying the issues close to our hearts, standing up for them, and persistently striving to make a difference. Through our collective efforts, we can guide our society toward a brighter future where our youth are nurtured, protected, and given the tools to succeed. I firmly believe that through strategic advocacy, we can not only enact change but also empower the next generation to shape the world they inherit. ๐ช
This is an example of the experience I would like to bring to the West Lafayette - City Government as a member of the City Council.
