INSC faculty member and former program head, Eugene H. Spafford, has been appointed to the newly formed MITRE ATT&CK® Advisory Council. Established by MITRE, the Advisory Council brings together leaders from government, industry and academia to provide strategic guidance on the long-term sustainability, integrity and global impact of the MITRE ATT&CK program

A study led by PULSe faculty member James Dooley, maps how rapid eye movement (REM) sleep evolves across early development. The key discovery; REM sleep doesn’t begin as the structured state seen in adults. Instead, it gradually separates into two distinct phases, each playing a different role in shaping the brain.

Researchers at Purdue University, including ESE faculty member Songlin Fei, are using digital forestry tools to better understand wildfire risks in real time. Their work is helping communities improve how they predict, monitor, and respond to growing wildfire threats.

PULSe faculty member, Jonathan Wilker, an expert in adhesives and biomimetic materials innovation, has long been interested in formulating new, more sustainable and better materials. Recent work from his research group has included using nature as an inspiration for sustainable, affordable adhesives.

Bryan Pijanowski, ESE faculty member and director of the Center for Global Soundscapes, is a leading voice in soundscape ecology. His scholarship in soundscape ecology, landscape ecology and geographic information science has opened new ways of understanding biodiversity and the relationship between people and nature through sound. In recognition of his contributions, Pijanowski has been awarded both the 2026 International Association for Landscape Ecology – North America (IALE-NA) Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award and Purdue College of Agriculture’s 2026 Lowell S. Hardin Award for Excellence in International Agriculture.
