Wabash Township Fire Department

Wabash Township Fire Department The WTFD is a combination department staffing career and volunteer Firefighters, EMTs, & Paramedics

The Association supports the Wabash Township Fire Department which was founded in December of 1971 by a small group of township residents with a vision to protect their families and neighbors. That vision has not only come to fruition, it has continued to expand as the needs of our customers have grown. Today our department consists of more than 25 Volunteers (including Purdue University students)

Our personnel responds 7 pieces of state-of-the-art apparatus out of 2 stations. To provide a brief snapshot of our activity, our personnel:

• Responds to more than 1300 emergency calls for service per year.

• Completes hundreds of hours of training on Fire, EMS, & Rescue topics to ensure above average capabilities and protection for our customers.

• Conducts more than 50 Fire Safety Inspections on fire alarm, fire sprinkler, & emergency lighting systems.

• Installs more than 75 smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for township residents at no cost per year.

• Conducts more than 30 community fire prevention events for Township daycares, preschools, & elementary schools as well as community organizations such as Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, area HOAs

This is the weather through the weekend. Take precautions and be sure to hydrate.

Hot and humid weather will continue through late week with highs in the mid and upper 90s and max heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees each afternoon. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Thursday. Limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and check on those most vulnerable to the heat.

Feast of the Hunters' Moon

From Local 5383.

This afternoon, the Lafayette City Council held a hearing on the resolution to approve Wabash Township receiving public safety tax money that Wabash Township residents have already paid.

To no one's surprise, the Council voted "NO". It was made clear that they had already decided they were going to vote "NO" before we ever walked into the room.

Whereas we appreciate the Lafayette Fire and Police Chiefs talking about how approving the request would have a negative impact on their departments, the facts are clear that the money requested would be off the top of NEXT year's request and could essentially be paid for using interest money alone.

It was made clear to us that the City of Lafayette relies on YOUR tax money to pay for their needs.

This is unfortunate, but with the support of our dedicated citizens, Township Trustee and Township Board, we will continue to provide excellent services and be here when you need us!!!
