If you've not been to the Caretaker's Cottage yet this Fall, there is still time! Open every Thursday - Sunday from 1-5 PM, our volunteer docents will provide you with a tour of West Lafayette local history stories based on the Archive Collections we have at the Library.

One of the exhibits we have up currently, called "The West Lafayette Music Man", focuses on the life and work of former West Lafayette High School band director Marshall Howenstein. A graduate of DePauw University, Marshall starting leading the fledgling WLHS band program in 1935. An accomplished musician as well as a composer, Howenstein famously wrote the music for West Side's "Victory Song" which is still played at games today.

We have all of Marshall's sheet music from his wide career, spanning over three decades, in the Marshall Howenstein Collection at West Lafayette Public Library Archive Collections. Drop us a line if you are interested in looking at any of this vast wealth of local music history, or you can stop by the Caretaker's Cottage to learn more about Marshall's life. Make sure to stop in by November 15th, the last day before the Cottage closes for the winter season!

The Book Cellar will not be open on Tuesday, October 20. You will have to wait until Wednesday 10:00-2:00 or Thursday 3:00-4:00 to discover all of the fantastic new finds we have in our gently used bookstore.
