The University Economic Development Association (UEDA) Summit pre-summit webinar series is underway. Purdue University Center for Regional Development recently presented Competitiveness in the United States: An Industry, Knowledge, and Skills Clusters Framework, showcasing new tools developed through a U.S. Economic Development Administration-funded project.

Participants explored how industry, knowledge, and skills cluster frameworks can help communities identify regional strengths, workforce needs, and opportunities for growth. With metrics covering more than 400 Economic Development Districts, the session offered valuable insights for regional economic development practitioners.

: PCRD is proud to share the completion of the EDA-funded Updating Industrial Clusters Project.

This national initiative modernized U.S. industry cluster definitions that had not been updated in nearly two decades and developed new occupation cluster frameworks based on both knowledge and skills. Supported by expert interviews, extensive research, practitioner feedback, and collaboration with Economic Development Districts (EDDs), the project resulted in powerful new resources for regional economic development.

Explore the Regional Clusters platform to access:

✅ Updated industry and occupation cluster definitions
✅ Interactive economic competitiveness dashboards
✅ GIS mapping tools for U.S. EDDs
✅ Technical reports, user guides, and FAQs
