Good news! I found the notes to the Zoo Mobile. The animals we saw are Ambassador animals meaning they only are seen by people attending a Zoo Mobile performance. The first animal we saw was an insect. It was the smallest animal in Madagascar. This insect has no wings, sticky feet, have little horns and the boys and girls look different. They also are about 2 and 1/2 inches long, has a flat shape, and hisses to protect themself. If you guessed a hissing cockroach you are right.
The next animal we saw was a mammal, lives in Africa, and her name was Daphne. She is nocturnal, has quills to protect her from her enemies, and does not shoot them from her body. She loves too dig for food and eats lots of insects. When she is scared she rolls up into a ball. Daphne is very light in color which is unusual. If you guessed a African Pygmy Hedgehog you are right. She is the smallest of her bred .
Then we saw an animal that comes from Australia. He was a reptile, blends in with his surroundings, lives in the desert, eats anything and his body can regulate in temperature to his surroundings. He is an omnivore and his beard pops out revealing a sort of bears projecting out. If you guessed bearded dragoon , you are right. His name is Moosha.
The last was a reptile, lives in a treetop ,and has very strong muscles. Her name was Prism. Her tongue sticks out frequently ,she was from Brazil on the Amazon and she is non venomous.

She squeezes her prey and swallowed her food whole. She can eat food three times bigger then her.She has pits in the top of her head where she senses warmth and when to squeeze. One last thing is she has a special organ in her head called a Jacobson organ. This organ tells her what that smells are. Can you quess?

The Utica Zoo mobile visited the library one Wednesday afternoon this summer. We met a snake that actually was quite friendly even though he stuck his tongue out at us. They do that to smell us. We met a hedge hog which it too was beautiful. Those that wanted to got to pet it as well. I took notes but can't find them. I knew their names and the certain characteristics that made them special. We also met a hissing cockroach. Actually a pair. The Mr. decided to even hiss for us. The other animal we saw was a bearded dragon. That brought pack many memories of a dear friend who used to volunteer in my classroom and also had a pet bearded dragon, Dozer. She used to bring him all the time. With her help, she brought in an incubator and raised baby bearded dragons. It was a lot of fun and hopefully former second graders remember this.

Ron's act was very educational. As I mentioned before, the poster had several stories and he read several clues all in rhyme. Here are some more pictures of that day. Every magician must have a rabbit. The kids really enjoyed petting it. Also even the littlest guy enjoyed the show along with his sisters.

Magician Ron Cain performed a great show at the library one day in August. We did not have many people at the show but the people who came witnessed and participated in a fabulous show. He did a marvelous job of relating the theme to a library and getting people to participate. He had a poster with several characters from books. He would pull a rhyme out of a magical box that gave a clue to one of the stories he was about to read. More info later. Here are some pictures.

08/03/2023

Well it finally happened. The show by The Rev had to be cancelled due to a no show. I got in touch today and found out why. I booked that date in December of last year with the events coordinator with the initials R Y. I had the name but don't want to use it here. Unfortunately she or he left shortly after and never put the date we requested in the calendar.

I have also subscribed to National Geographic Kids magazine. I have 4 months of magazines that have never been signed out. They are very educational and a fun, easy read for kids and parents. Did you know a group of giraffes is called a tower? I didn't. Most sharks would sink in fresh water. Zebras can aim their tails to swat flies. One more thing. It isn't about just animals. This magazine says your brain can identify tastes in .0015 second. faster than a blink of an eye. Many more interesting facts in every edition. Be the first to sign one out !

Does anyone know what happened to the sign we use to post events outside our town building? It was found leaning up against the building in two pieces. It was an expensive item that has been very useful and on a tight budget ,might be hard to replace/ Thanks, Sue
