West Liberty Fire Department was dispatched this evening for a tree on a car with occupants entrapped. Chief 111, Rescue 111 Engine 112,Medic 111 along with Logan County sheriffs office and West Liberty Police Department responded to scene. First arriving units did find that the three occupants were able to self extricate and were all treated and transported with minor injuries. Fire crews dealt with removal of tree off car along with removal of a second tree across the road just 100 feet away. The cars roof was collapsed to the top of the seats and the weight of the tree had pinned the car frame to the ground. The occupants were fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.

This week the West Liberty Fire Department and member of the Ohio State Fire Marshals Office partnered to present their Sound Off for Fire Safety program to second and third grade students at West Liberty Salem School. The students were taught the importance of having working smoke detectors in the home, how to identify fire hazards, and developing an escape plan with knowing two ways out of their homes. Each student was given a survey to take home and complete with their guardian to identify if they have working smoke detectors in their homes. Parents who have a need will be provided smoke detectors at no charge and given assistance to help get them installed properly.
We appreciate how well the students and teachers were engaged and receptive of the program.

The West Liberty Fire Dept. along with Macochee EMS performed training tonight at the Ohio Caverns. The training was removing patients from the confined space in areas of the caverns. Crews had to adapt to a multitude of factors including narrow passages and obstacles. Cool damp conditions. Poor radio communications and extrication from several stories below ground. All crews performed well and now have a good understanding of the complexity and extra manpower needed to remove potential patients from the caverns should the need arise. We want to thank the Ohio Caverns for hosting and allowing us to practice techniques should the need occur.

Dear Champaign County Residents,

Following the security breach that affected the county’s previous alerting system, CodeRED, in November, the county has taken steps to ensure a more secure and reliable method of delivering emergency notifications.

We are pleased to introduce our new alerting platform, Everbridge. This system offers enhanced security, dependable performance, and a unified solution for sending emergency messages. Everbridge is trusted by millions of users across more than 200 countries and territories and incorporates over 325 security controls. It delivers real-time alerts and instructions through multiple channels, including SMS, email, desktop notifications, and voice calls.

Please note that all residents must complete a new registration to receive alerts through Everbridge, even if you were previously signed up for CodeRED. Without registration, you will not receive emergency notifications.

We strongly encourage you to follow the registration instructions as soon as possible to stay informed and protected.
