☀️🚓 Memorial Day Weekend may be behind us, but summer traffic is just getting started in West Long Branch.

As we officially begin the summer season, our roads will see an increase in traffic as visitors travel to and from the shore, local businesses, restaurants, and nearby beaches.

With more vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on our roadways, we ask everyone to please remain patient, courteous, and alert while traveling throughout town.

A few important reminders as we head into the busy summer months:

🚗 Please obey posted speed limits — they are in place to protect everyone.
🚶 Be extra mindful of pedestrians, especially near intersections, crosswalks, neighborhoods, and business areas.
🚴 Watch for bicyclists and walkers sharing our roads.
📱 Eliminate distractions while driving — put the phone down and stay focused.
🤝 A little patience and courtesy go a long way.

We understand increased traffic can be frustrating at times, but together we can help ensure everyone gets to their destination safely.

Our officers will continue to be out on patrol working to keep our roads safe throughout the summer season.

Please drive safely, be patient with one another, and enjoy everything summer in West Long Branch has to offer. ☀️💙

💙 April is Autism Awareness Month 💙

See the ability. Respect the difference.

Autism doesn’t start on April 1st —
and it doesn’t end on April 30th.

For many families, it’s every single day.
Every interaction. Every challenge. Every victory.

So while the calendar will soon say “Autism Awareness Month”…
we’re asking our community to go a step further:

👉 Be aware — but also be understanding.
👉 Be patient — even when it’s not easy.
👉 Choose kindness — every single time.

Beginning today, you’ll start to see Autism Awareness displayed on several of our patrol vehicles throughout the Borough — a small reminder that inclusion and understanding matter every single day.

At the West Long Branch Police Department, we are committed to continuing to learn, adapt, and serve every member of our community with compassion and respect.

Because real awareness isn’t a post…
it’s how we treat people when no one’s watching.

We are asking our community to come together in support of a true leader, mentor, and friend to the West Long Branch Police Department—Captain Tom Rizzo of the Howell Police Department.

Captain Rizzo has dedicated his career to serving others, not only within his agency but across the country, where he continues to inspire law enforcement professionals through his motivational speaking, teachings and his commitment to making our profession stronger and better.

Today, his family needs us.

His courageous daughter has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, turning their world upside down. As Captain Rizzo has stood by so many of us in times of need, it is now our turn to stand by him and his family.

We ask that you please keep them in your prayers. Pray for strength, healing, and resilience. Please also consider sharing this message to spread awareness, and if you are able, contributing through donations to support them during this incredibly difficult time.

Let’s come together as a community and show the Rizzo family the same strength, compassion, and unwavering support that Captain Rizzo has shown to so many.

🚔 WEST LONG BRANCH POLICE DEPARTMENT 🚔
Annual Borough Awards & Swearing-In Ceremony – March 18, 2026

Last night was one of those nights that truly defines what community means in West Long Branch.

Our Council Chambers—and even the hallways of Borough Hall—were absolutely packed with residents, families, and supporters as we came together to recognize those who go above and beyond every single day.

We proudly welcomed Patrolman Gavin Jackey and Patrolman Christopher Hayes, who were ceremonially sworn in and officially joined the ranks of the West Long Branch Police Department. Your journey begins now, and we are proud to have you.

We also honored exceptional police work with Exceptional Duty Awards presented to:
🔹 Detective Kyle Szatkowski
🔹 Sergeant Tyler Brennessel
🔹 Detective Timothy Hanrahan (unable to attend)

Their actions represent the very best of this profession—dedication, teamwork, and commitment to protecting others.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was recognizing Special Officer Jude Mayo, who retired after an incredible 36 years of dedicated service to the Borough of West Long Branch. His impact on this department and community will be felt for generations.

But the night didn’t stop there…

🚑 10 West Long Branch EMS members were awarded CPR Life Saving Pins, recognized for stepping in when seconds mattered most.

🔥 7 members of the West Long Branch Fire Department were honored for their response to a wildfire, demonstrating courage and commitment under challenging conditions.

🏆 Borough Recognitions Included:
• Student Volunteer of the Year: Alaina LaSalle
• Volunteer of the Year: Beth Weston Knotts
• Employee of the Year: Dawn Duprex
• Exceptional Community Business Owner: Paul Sgro – Lee’s Garage, proudly serving West Long Branch for 89 years

This was more than an awards ceremony—it was a celebration of service, sacrifice, and the people who make this community so strong.

From public safety professionals to volunteers, employees, and business owners—last night showcased the very best of West Long Branch.

👏 Congratulations to all who were recognized
👏 Welcome to our newest officers
👏 And thank you to everyone who came out to support
