FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The West Memphis Police Department is aware of the recent precautionary lockdowns involving schools within the West Memphis School District.
Earlier today, officers responded to an isolated incident involving two vehicles that happened near a school campus. At this time, investigators have determined the incident was not connected to any school, students, or staff.
Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators and law enforcement officials implemented soft lockdown procedures to help ensure the safety of all students and personnel while officers secured the area and conducted their investigation.
The situation is now contained, and all schools have been released from the soft lockdown.
There is no ongoing threat to the public or our schools.
The West Memphis Police Department appreciates the cooperation of school officials, parents, students, and the community as we continue working together to keep our schools and neighborhoods safe.
