Congratulations SGT. Monica Rose! Job well done!! and Thank You to all First Responders 🙌

It's our privilege and honor to recognize local first responders in this September edition. Get to know Farrell, Pa.'s Police Sgt. Monica Rose, our cover feature. She's as kind as she is fierce. Ever consider a tow truck operator as a first responder? You will after reading about Mercer Auto Wreckers. And Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce has a special Heroes Award it presents each month to a valley first responder.
We also honor women in medicine and tell you about the team of Thru-Care, a drive-through urgent care center in Mercer, Pa., Dr. Angela Hogue from Primary Health Network in Sharon, Pa., and Dr. Dana Craig, owner of Craig Family Orthodontics in Hermitage, Pa.

This month, we acknowledge the bleak 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. We can't forget the first responders who woke up on an ordinary day, only to find themselves running toward unimaginable fear, danger, and even death, forever defining what selfless service looks like. Their example lives on in every first responder and healthcare professional who continues the work.

And for Out & About, we visited Le Resto Asian Fusion in New Castle, Pa. It is terrific, and a personal return visit is already on the calendar.

Congratulations West Middlesex VFD! And a great big thank you Straub Beer!

West Middlesex VFD Chief Rick Garrett and some of his crew received a donation from Straub Brewery as part of the brewery's annual Straub Firefighter Appreciation Program. Dave Wagner, Straub Regional Sales Manager was on hand for the donation.
Straub customer, Robert Rogers from Sharpsville found a "winning can" in a case of Straub Lager that he bought at Joe Beer in West Middlesex and chose Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department to receive the donation from Straub. Mike Erme and 's INC in Hermitage, Straub's wholesaler for the area, matched Straub's donation to the fire company as he does for all fire companies selected in his market.
Thanks to Robert Rogers, Erme's, and especially the local heroes at West Middlesex VFD.

Goodmorning West Middlesex!

We are calling all 2026 graduates!!! Graduation is always a big deal, but your class, like the class of 1976, is just a little bit cooler than the rest of us. You both have the honor of sharing your date with America's milestones. The class of 1976 celebrated America's Bicentennial, your class celebrates America 250. You both are invited to the time capsule burial celebration August 19th at 7pm in Memorial Park. The time capsule will be buried behind the gazebo, with a plan to dig it up, 50 years from now!! It is my hope that the class of 2026 will dig it up at your 50th class reunion.

If you have any questions, done hesitate to call our office, 724-528-9931. We will have light refreshments as well as old movies, a town history talk, and an evening with friends and neighbors. I hope to see you all there!

The Borough of West Middlesex warmly invites all residents to join us as we celebrate our community's rich history and bright future with the burial of our Borough Time Capsule on Wednesday, August 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Gazebo. This special ceremony will be held on the anniversary of the Borough's incorporation in 1864, making it a meaningful opportunity to honor our past while preserving a piece of today's West Middlesex for future generations.

A Message from Mayor Stacey Curry:
On behalf of the Borough of West Middlesex, I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to our Time Capsule project. Whether you donated photographs, memorabilia, letters, keepsakes, or simply shared your enthusiasm, your contributions have helped create something truly special. This time capsule represents the heart of our community and the people who make West Middlesex such a wonderful place to call home. I hope you will join us as we come together to celebrate our Borough's history, commemorate another year since our incorporation in 1864, and leave a lasting gift for future generations. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to the Community Hall to continue the celebration. Enjoy a movie featuring memories from West Middlesex's past, hear fascinating stories and historical insights presented by Mr. Robert Lark, browse historical displays, visit with friends and neighbors, and enjoy light refreshments as we celebrate our community's rich heritage together.

Good evening West Middlesex!

Tonight, I had the pleasure of being invited to participate in the 125th anniversary of the city of Farrell. A parade kicked off a weekend of celebration. We made our way down Roemer Blvd to Veteran's Square..lots of families and kids came out. It was great to hear all the stories from days gone by, and to hear the hope for the future! Thank you to Mayor Doss, the Farrell Council, City Manager Shawn Anderson, Fire Chief Mike Renner and Chief of Police Eric Gatewood for welcoming our town, and making me feel like part of the family!! 💛💙
