In the last 24 hours, Shenango Township Fire/EMS responded to two separate motor vehicle accidents with entrapment on Interstate 80.
Last night, shortly after 10 PM, Station and Ambulance 79 were dispatched to an MVA with injuries near the 4.8 mile marker of I-80. While units were responding, Mercer County 911 advised of possible entrapment. Hubbard Fire stood by near the state line for additional assistance. Crews from Squad 79-2 and Engine 79 removed one door to free an occupant. Ambulance 79 and Ambulance 79-2 transported a total of three patients with non-life-threatening injuries. Units returned to service just over an hour later.

Around 2 PM today, Station 79 was again dispatched for an MVA with unknown circumstances near the Mile 4 interchange. Ambulance 79 was unavailable due to a prior medical call, and Elite EMS was dispatched. Engine 79 arrived first, reporting heavy damage and confirmed entrapment. Pulaski Township Fire was dispatched to stand by at Station 79. The sole occupant was extricated within six minutes of arrival and placed in the care of EMS with minor injuries. Squad 79 shut down traffic on the ramp while crews operated. Units returned to service about an hour and a half later.
