***Update: ROAD RE-OPENED***
🚧 ROAD CLOSURE 🚧

Lebanon Church Road is currently closed westbound between Clairton Road and Lebanon Road due to a large tree that fell across the roadway, blocking both lanes.

Skyview VFC was on scene for more than four hours, shutting down the roadway and helping keep the public safe. Crews also placed multiple barricades/horses around the area until PennDOT or Verizon can respond and make the necessary repairs.

🌩️ The storm kept our volunteers busy tonight, responding to multiple calls throughout the area, including:

🚨 Water rescues
🌳 Trees down
🔔 Fire alarms
🔥 Possible structure fire

A huge thank-you to our volunteers who answered the call and worked through the storm to help keep our community safe. Stay safe and use caution while traveling!
Please avoid the area and find an alternate route until the road can be safely reopened.

🚒 Weekly Training Update 🚒

Tonight, our crews focused on Forcible Entry, practicing multiple techniques for defeating both inward- and outward-swinging doors.

Training isn’t about doing something once—it’s about doing it over and over until the movements become second nature.

Repetition builds muscle memory. Muscle memory builds confidence. Confidence builds capable firefighters. 💪🔥

Another night of putting in the work so we’re ready when it matters most.

Last night’s training focused on Water Rescue Awareness during a joint mutual aid training with Dravosburg #1 Volunteer Fire Department Allegheny County Station 131.

This type of training is extremely important for keeping our firefighters safe when operating near water—whether along our rivers, around streams, or during incidents involving flooded roadways. Understanding the hazards, recognizing changing conditions, and knowing how to operate safely can make all the difference.

Water activities can be a lot of fun, but water also deserves our respect. Conditions can change quickly, and even water that appears calm or shallow can become dangerous.

A big thank you to Dravosburg VFC for joining us for another great night of training. Working and training together helps ensure we're ready when our communities need us. 🚒🌊

This past weekend, several of our members had the opportunity to attend the Jimmy Ellis Training Weekend in Cranberry and at multiple training sites throughout Western Pennsylvania.

This event brings together some of the best fire service instructors from across the country, giving firefighters the opportunity to learn, train, and sharpen their skills in a realistic environment. One of the highlights was being able to utilize multiple acquired structures, making the training experience much more realistic than training in a traditional metal training building.

We are proud of our members for taking advantage of opportunities like this to continue learning and improving their skills. If you ever have the opportunity to attend the Jimmy Ellis Training Weekend, don’t miss it—you won’t be disappointed! 🚒🔥

🚒 Ever Wonder What It's Like to Be a Firefighter? 🚒

Now is your chance to find out!

Skyview Volunteer Fire Company is excited to announce our 2026 Citizens Fire Academy—a FREE six-week, hands-on program designed to give members of our community an inside look at the fire service.

Whether you've always been curious about what happens when the alarm sounds, want to learn how firefighters operate, or are looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community, this academy is for you.

Throughout the academy, you'll have the opportunity to:
🔥 Wear real firefighting gear
🚒 Operate fire department equipment
💧 Flow hoselines and learn water supply operations
🪜 Experience truck company operations
🚗 Learn the basics of vehicle rescue
🔥 Participate in a live fire evolution

You'll train alongside our firefighters, ask questions, and experience the teamwork, training, and dedication it takes to serve your community.

Who knows... by the end of the academy, you may decide that becoming a volunteer firefighter is the right fit for you!

🌫️ AIR QUALITY ALERT – SMOKE FROM CANADA WILDFIRES 🌫️

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved into our region, resulting in poor air quality across West Mifflin and much of Allegheny County.

Residents are encouraged to limit the amount of time spent outdoors, especially if you:
• Have asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions
• Have heart disease
• Are an older adult
• Are pregnant
• Have young children
• Have a weakened immune system

Even healthy individuals may experience:
▪️ Eye, nose, and throat irritation
▪️ Coughing or wheezing
▪️ Shortness of breath
▪️ Headaches or fatigue

To protect yourself:
✅ Stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors closed.
✅ If you must be outside, limit strenuous activities and consider wearing a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask.
✅ Run your air conditioning on recirculate or use an air purifier if available.
✅ Check on family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to poor air quality.

If you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe coughing, or worsening symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
