MAY KINDNESS CLUB - A Sweet Ending to a Kind Year!

The Kindness Club wrapped up an amazing year with creativity, kindness, and sweet treats! The Homeville Kind Kids spent time painting uplifting messages on our rock garden rocks, spreading positivity and encouragement for everyone who visits. From colorful designs to thoughtful words, each rock was a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. To celebrate a successful and fun-filled year, everyone enjoyed a special ice cream treat together! Thank you to all of our Kindness Club members for helping make our school/community a brighter and kinder place all year long. 💛

🐣 Welcome to the Family chicks!🐣

Room 103 hosted some very special classmates this spring! Please join us in saying a very special 👋🏻 hello 👋🏻 to our fluffy friends! Mrs. Axelson’s class came up with the names and the school voted on what they would be!

The whole school has been able to watch the process of hatching chickens from beginning to now! We started with eggs in an incubator and SIX of them hatched out! It was so exciting to see! Learning about the life cycle of a chick has been such a cool experience!! ☺️

Wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful nurse, Mrs. Stark! If you see her, thank her! She’s the best!

Music in the Park 🎶

Second-grade students attended the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where they learned from the conductor about different rhythms and how each instrument plays an important role in bringing the symphony together. It was a wonderful, engaging experience that brought music to life for our students!

🎉 Moonshot Museum_Grand Prize Celebration! 🚀
Thirty lucky winners from various Spring into Science activities—including Science Fair projects, Weather Reporters, Earth Day posters, Scavenger Hunt, and the creative “What a Scientist Looks Like” contest—earned an incredible grand prize: a field trip to the Moonshot Museum!

This innovative Pittsburgh museum offers students a unique, real-world look at space exploration and is building a new partnership with West Mifflin to inspire future learning about space and the moon. During their visit, students had the amazing opportunity to watch real scientists at work building the newest robot that will be sent to NASA!

Students also put their critical thinking skills to the test with hands-on challenges similar to those used in mission control. One activity asked students to identify the color of a word without being distracted by the word itself, while another challenged them to count basketball bounces in a fast-paced video filled with distractions. Museum staff were incredibly impressed and shared that our students demonstrated strong focus and problem-solving skills—future space explorers in the making!

🎉 PBIS Celebration Spotlight! 🎉

We’re so proud of our PBIS winners, who recently enjoyed a special trip to the middle school musical production of The Wizard of Oz! 🌈✨

Our students have been working hard to show positive behavior, responsibility, and kindness—and this was a well-deserved reward. From the dazzling costumes to the unforgettable songs, it was a magical experience for everyone!

A big thank you to our middle school performers and staff for putting on such an incredible show, and congratulations again to our PBIS stars. Keep shining and leading the way! 💫

Special thanks to Mrs.Banaszak for giving Homeville’s favorite special visitor Don German aka “Eagle Man” a call to educate and entertain us on our neighbors down the river in a nest!

Don German, former Plant Manager of the Irvin Finishing Plant and Fairless Galvanize, recently retired after an incredible 36-year career with U.S. Steel.

We are so fortunate to have Don visit Homeville to present an “Eagle Talk” to our students!

Throughout his career at U.S. Steel, Don has achieved many accomplishments, but he is especially proud of his passion for educating others through Eagle Talks and his work managing the U.S. Steel Eagle Cam. Our students love tuning in to the live cams and are always excited to spot the newest members of the eagle family!

And here’s something even more exciting…

Don will soon be publishing a children’s book, Wings of Steel, inspired by his experience rescuing “Rosie,” a juvenile eaglet that fell from the nest. Our students are thrilled to be among the first to hear about this amazing story!

Thank you, Don, for visiting Homeville! The students especially loved their eagle squishies!
