More housing options are one step closer to reality in PA.

Legislation I introduced to make it easier for homeowners to create accessory dwelling units -- such as garage apartments, backyard cottages, and basement apartments -- has passed the PA House.

The bill would help expand affordable housing opportunities while preserving local safety and neighborhood standards. H.B. 2186 now heads to the Senate for consideration.

While I am up in Harrisburg today my staff along with representatives from the Mon Yough Area Chamber of Commerce were happy to attend today's ribbon cutting at the newly remodeled Long John Silver's in West Mifflin. We love seeing businesses who are willing to invest in our communities and continue to build and service the Mon Valley.

This past weekend, I was honored to recognize Larry Russ and Bobby Trygar for 50 years of dedicated service and Joe Barron for his 51-year career. Each received a Kennywood bench in their name, a fitting tribute to individuals whose steady presence and commitment have shaped the park and it's community for generations.

It was great to join my colleagues and of course the students of the 38th district at Sen. Nick Pisciottano Student Government Seminar.

I am always happy to return to my teaching roots and talk civics and government with students.

April was a full and exciting month, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to be out in the community. Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been up to:

• Kicked off the month at the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce Legislative Luncheon, talking with local business leaders about the Mon Valley Forward strategy and hearing what’s top‑of‑mind for our region.

• Toured Steel Center with Sen. Pisciottano. Its always inspiring to see students thriving in hands‑on programs, preparing for strong careers.

• Stopped by SHIM’s West Mifflin Family Center for a great conversation about their services and to catch their nurturing parenting class in action.

• Joined the Whitehall Historical Society for their Semi‑Quincentennial ceremony — a wonderful celebration of our shared history.

• Helped residents at West Mifflin Manor complete more than 40 Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications. Making sure they get the support they deserve.

• Closed out tax season with over 600 returns filed through our AARP tax program. Huge thank‑you to the amazing volunteers who make this service possible year after year.

And I’m wrapping up April in Harrisburg, working hard and voting on legislation that moves the Mon Valley forward and strengthens our communities.
