PUBLIC NOTICE

The West Milwaukee Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (414) 255-5626 on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Comments will be taken by the WILEAG Assessment Team assigned to conduct this assessment.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with WILEAG’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the police department’s web page: https://www.westmilwaukee.org/gov/departments/police/

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the West Milwaukee Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group at the following address:

Kane is his favorite school supply! 🦮💙

Honestly, I think that means he’s doing a pretty good job. 😉

🚔🐾 Big news for K9 Kane!

The West Milwaukee Police Department is proud to announce that Officer Herpin and Therapy K9 Kane have graduated from Steinig Tal K9 Police Academy and are now certified in drug detection! 🥳🎉

With this certification, Kane is now one of only three dogs in the nation certified in both therapy work and drug detection work in schools. This unique achievement allows Kane to continue supporting our schools and community, while also assisting on patrol with drug detection. Within the schools, therapy will remain Kane’s primary role.

Congratulations Officer Herpin and K9 Kane on this incredible accomplishment! If you see them out on patrol, make sure to say hello!

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms that unite us as Americans. As you gather with family and friends to enjoy cookouts, parades, fireworks, and other festivities, we hope you have a fun, safe, and memorable Independence Day.

If you’re celebrating today, please remember:
🎆 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible and follow all local laws.
🚗 Never drive impaired; designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service.
💙 Be mindful of your neighbors, veterans, pets, and others who may be sensitive to loud noises.
👮 If you see suspicious activity or need assistance, don’t hesitate to call us.

What a remarkable season of growth and achievement for the West Milwaukee Police Department!

Please join us in congratulating the incredible members of our team on these exciting milestones:

🎓 Congratulations to our newest officer, Officer Labiszak on successfully graduating from the police academy! This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we wish her the very best as she begins the next chapter of her career with the department.

🐾 Our Therapy Dog Kane has officially been badged and is now ready to continue serving our community, schools, officers, and those experiencing difficult times. Kane is also currently training to be certified in narcotics detection. We are excited for the positive impact this program will continue to have throughout West Milwaukee.

👮 We are also proud to welcome another experienced officer to our department. Officer Tincher brings 6 years of law enforcement experience to the department. His knowledge, professionalism, and dedication to public service will be a valuable addition to our team.

⭐ Congratulations to four members of our department who recently earned well-deserved promotions. Assistant Chief Gallenberger, Lieutenant Chic, Sergeant Roth and Corporal Gutierrez, your hard work, leadership, and commitment to excellence have not gone unnoticed, and we look forward to seeing you thrive in your new roles.

💙 Finally, we extend our deepest gratitude and congratulations to Assistant Chief Donovan on retiring after 30 years in law enforcement with 27 years of dedicated service to the West Milwaukee Police Department. Your leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to this community have left a lasting legacy. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our department and the residents of West Milwaukee. Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day and remember those who gave everything for our freedom.
