March 28th! 3pm! See you there! 🐰

Spring is nearly here, and so is the annual burn ban. As the snow melts and temperatures rise, New York State is at an increased risk of wildfires in the spring. In effect from March 16 through May 14, the annual burn ban prohibits residents from burning vegetation and brush with few exceptions.

Yesterday 1/30/2026 at 21:18 - West Amboy Fire was dispatched alongside our First Alarm:
Cleveland Fire
Constantia Fire
Williamstown Fire
County Fire Coordinators

to a reported Structure Fire on State Route 69. Minutes later law enforcement arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from the front door and windows. 3003 – Chief Connor arrived on scene and reported it was a 2-story wood frame with smoke showing from the front door. Chief Douglas – 2901 then arrived on scene and requested a 2nd alarm activating:
Camden Fire
Parish Fire
Redfield Fire
West Monroe Fire
McFee Ambulance

Shortly after the 2nd alarm, tankers were requested from:
Central Square Fire
Hastings Fire
Mexico Fire – Also requested 38MC1
New Haven Fire

Due to the severity of the damage and the dangers of entering the building, it was determined fire personnel would not enter the building, because of this, command later requested the County Highway Department for an excavator. The excavator was used to unfortunately tear down the residence out of an abundance of safety for everyone and to ensure all hotspots were removed and the fire was extinguished.

The Fire Clock was stopped by command at 284 Minutes at 01:49 on 1/31/2026.

While operations were in motion we faced a severe challenge. The extreme cold. While we were on scene the temperature was between 1 and -3 degrees not including the windchill factor. This not only made our job extremely difficult, but it also made it nearly impossible to get water. Whether it was establishing a fill site or keeping the tankers from freezing, all the crews involved did an amazing job ensuring water got to the fire.

All companies were back in service by 05:00. For a total of 7hrs and 42mins on scene. That was only the first half. After we got back to the station the second half began. Due to the temperature everything was frozen. From the actual truck to all our hose that we utilized. The same crew from every department didn’t just go home after the fire. They were at their stations ensuring all the equipment was put back in service so they could respond to the next alarm.

Special thank you to:
All the involved departments
West Monroe VFD Women’s Auxiliary
Circle K
Oswego County Highway Department
Town of Amboy Highway
Town of Williamstown Highway
National Grid
Red Cross
Oswego County Sheriffs Office
New York State Police
And of course Oswego County 911

We couldn’t do it without all of your help!
