Thank you to the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce for hosting this year’s State of the State event.

It was a great opportunity to join my colleagues from the Westmoreland County House and Senate Delegation to discuss the issues that matter most to our communities, businesses, and families.

One of the questions was on affordability. I highlighted House Bill 2373 that I am a co-prime sponsor, to provide a six-month suspension of Pennsylvania’s Gross Receipts Tax on electricity, giving families, seniors, and small businesses relief from rising utility costs. We also discussed the need for relief at the gas pump and my broader House Affordability Package aimed at lowering costs, reducing the tax burden on working families, and making Pennsylvania a more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.

We also discussed energy production, workforce development, economic growth, and the policies needed to keep Pennsylvania competitive.

Thank you to the Chamber, the sponsors, Aaron Riggleman and Greg Moreland for emceeing the event, and everyone who attended and participated in the discussion. A special thank you to Westmoreland County Chamber Chairman Dan DeBone for his leadership and commitment to strengthening our local business community.

I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts and hear directly from the employers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who help make Westmoreland County a great place to live, work, and do business.

Memorial Day, we had the honor of gathering in Sutersville for a very special bridge naming ceremony recognizing a legacy that has had a lasting impact on our community.

It was great to see so many community members, local leaders, veterans, first responders, and family members come together for such a meaningful event. Moments like these remind us how important it is to honor the people whose dedication and service helped shape our communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the ceremony so special. Thank you as well to everyone who helped make this happen. Since the bridge is jointly owned by both Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, approval was needed from both counties for the naming. A special thank you to Westmoreland County Commissioner Sean Kertes for joining us for the ceremony.

Had an incredible evening Thursday celebrating Leonard Parzynski and his 50 years of service with the Belle Vernon Area Rotary Club.

Leonard represents the very best of our community. For decades, he has quietly served others — through Rotary, North Belle Vernon Council, St. Sebastian Church, the fire department, countless community organizations, and through the compassion he has shown families at Parzynski Funeral Home.

Whether it was leading Rotary projects, mentoring younger members, or unloading trucks full of oranges and grapefruit on freezing winter nights to help raise money for the community, Leonard always lived Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”

What stood out most tonight was not just the milestone, but the respect and love everyone in the room had for him. You could truly see the impact one person can have over a lifetime of service.

It was also special to see the next generation continue that tradition as his granddaughter, Rachel, was sworn in as Rotary’s newest member. A true family legacy of giving back.

Communities need more people like Leonard Parzynski — humble, compassionate, hardworking people who dedicate their lives to helping others without ever asking for recognition.

Congratulations, Leonard, on this incredible milestone, and thank you for everything you have done for the Mon Valley and beyond.

Join us this Memorial Day as we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Sutersville Fairgrounds and conclude at the Honor Roll, where we will gather to dedicate the bridge as the “Sons of Sutersville & Elizabeth Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge.”

Please come out as we remember our fallen heroes, support our veterans, and celebrate the proud history and patriotism of our community. 🇺🇸

Today I had the honor of presenting a Pennsylvania House of Representatives citation recognizing Irene Shott on the incredible milestone of her 100th birthday.

Born and raised in Yukon, Irene’s life is a true story of love, commitment, and family. She met her husband, Joseph, at the Yukon Easter dance when she was just 16 years old. Shortly after, Joseph was drafted into the Army during World War II. Before leaving, he gave Irene a promise ring, and the two stayed connected through letters while he served our country overseas.

After the war, Irene and Joseph were married in 1946 and shared nearly 60 wonderful years together — 59 and a half years of marriage built on love, faith, and dedication to family.

It was truly special to help celebrate Irene’s remarkable life and legacy. Happy 100th Birthday, Irene! Wishing you continued health, happiness, and many more cherished memories with your loved ones.

Celebrating 25 years of impact! Today I had the opportunity to attend the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board’s 25th Anniversary Luncheon in Connellsville.

For the past 25 years, WFWIB has played an important role in connecting residents with career opportunities, supporting local employers, and strengthening our workforce across Westmoreland and Fayette Counties. Congratulations on this milestone and thank you for your continued commitment to our communities and local economy!

Yesterday marked the beginning of National EMS Week, a time to recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who serve our communities through Emergency Medical Services.

EMS professionals are there for us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — responding in emergencies, providing lifesaving care, and showing compassion during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Their commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. Thank you to all of our EMS personnel for everything you do to keep our communities safe and cared for.

Happy EMS Week!

Wednesday evening, my office had the honor of attending a banquet in Westmoreland County recognizing our First Responders who respond to incidents involving mental health and substance abuse. These situations can be some of the most difficult and challenging calls they face, requiring compassion, patience, professionalism, and strength.

We are especially proud to see two individuals from my legislative district recognized for their outstanding service: Bob Stark of Rostraver West Newton EMS and Jeremy Wodarek of the Scottdale Police Department. Their dedication to helping individuals and families during difficult situations is truly commendable, and our communities are fortunate to have them serving and protecting us.

Thank you to all of the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, firefighters, dispatchers, healthcare professionals, and community partners who work tirelessly every day. Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and our communities are stronger because of your service.

It was a meaningful evening recognizing those who continue to make a difference every day.
