In an emergency, time is of the essence. Pennsylvania offers two programs that help first responders collect vital information after a traffic crash or emergency.

Placing a Yellow Dot decal in your vehicle's rear window alerts first responders to check your glove compartment for a booklet. You'll have the option to include information about medical conditions, allergies, emergency contact info and more. By keeping up-to-date emergency contact information in our system, you'll be giving law enforcement the ability to quickly reach someone who will speak for you if ever you cannot speak for yourself. It’s nearly September and school is back in session. Remember, drivers must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses with red lights flashing and stop arm activated.

Yellow lights on a school bus indicate the bus is preparing to stop.

If you’re driving, slow down, stay alert, and watch out for children.

Emergency Management is definitely a team effort !!
And we are thankful for all of our First Responders, Agencies, and Partners that help us with keeping our community safe !!

Emergency management is not a solo job.

Long before an incident occurs, emergency managers are getting to know the people they may one day need beside them. That can mean working with public safety, healthcare, government agencies, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and many others, building the trust and understanding that make it easier to work together when something goes wrong.

When that moment comes, those relationships matter. People need to share information, coordinate resources, and make decisions together, often as circumstances change by the minute. The goal is to bring different expertise and resources together so everyone can do their part. This work also continues after the immediate response. Partners may stay connected as communities recover, address their next needs, and begin rebuilding.

Bringing different people, knowledge, and resources together makes it possible to tackle challenges that no one organization could handle alone. No one person can do it all. Emergency management works successfully because people show up for one another.

Tomorrow is the first day of school for Yough School District, and the members of West Newton Volunteer Fire Company – Station 82 want to wish all of our students, teachers, staff, bus drivers, and families a safe, happy, and successful school year! ❤️

We especially want to wish our own Station Kids — Ava, Emmaleigh, Isabella, Josh, Luke, Addy, Christian, Maverick, Ellianna, and Magnolia — a fantastic first day! 🚒❤️

🚌 DRIVERS: School buses are back on the roads, children will be waiting at bus stops, and students will be walking through our neighborhoods. Please slow down, put the phone away, stay alert, and STOP for flashing red lights. A few extra seconds of patience can save a life.

🎒 STUDENTS: As you start a brand-new school year, remember to make smart choices, work hard, stay safe, look out for one another, and most importantly — BE KIND.

Sit with someone who’s alone. Include someone who feels left out. Help someone who’s struggling. Stand up for what is right. You never know how much one small act of kindness might mean to someone. ❤️

Whether tomorrow is your very first day of school or the beginning of your final year, make it a great one!
