Seniors in our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center’s (CTEC) New Visions Program were recognized at the 58th Annual Carroll F. Johnson Scholastic Achievement Dinner. Hosted by the Lower Hudson Council of Superintendents, this event celebrates top scholars from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties for their outstanding academic achievements.

Congratulations to Goldy Glauber (Suffern SD) and Patrick Fanshawe (Pearl River SD) for being recognized! Both graduating seniors are continuing their education. In the fall, Goldy will attend Wake Forest, and Patrick will attend Harvard. Our students celebrated alongside District Superintendent Christopher D'Ambrese and CTEC Principal Eric Kurz. Congratulations to both students for this well-deserved recognition!

The New Visions Health Careers Exploration Program allows high school seniors to step into the world of healthcare. Students gain hands-on experience working alongside doctors, nurses, therapists and other professionals, discovering their passions and exploring career paths. Learn more at RocklandBOCES.org.

Students in our Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) are helping first responders be prepared for their next emergency! Students studying Welding and Automotive Collision collaborate with the Oradell Fire Department to build a frame for their trailer that allows them to move two boats at once, streamlining the dive team’s emergency response time. After welding students built the structure, learners in Automotive Collision applied a fresh coat of paint in their state-of-the-art paint booth, providing the fire department with a practical and clean tool, something they had been needing for years.

As part of the Rockland BOCES mission, we involve our students in the community we serve, working collaboratively with local businesses and non-profit organizations to offer volunteer and internship opportunities to our learners.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ At our Rockland BOCES River View High School, students kick off June with the annual Pride celebration! The event features an open mic that allows students to share their original poems, songs and stories - in a safe and supportive environment. Afterward, students mingle as they learn more about local resources through the Rockland County Pride Center, register to vote and savor refreshing ice pops!

Pride Month is observed each June in the United States in commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising. The month is also a time to recognize the contributions of LGBTQIA+ Americans and raise awareness about efforts for equal justice and equal opportunity for the LGBTQIA+ community. At Rockland BOCES, we celebrate acceptance and equality while ensuring our students' voices are heard year-round.

Our Rockland BOCES New Visions Health Careers students cook up success! After researching diets for individuals with chronic medical issues (diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.), learners identified appropriate recipes for their “patient” and prepared the meal in our Culinary Arts facility!

High schoolers worked in groups to create their dishes and explain the health needs of their fictitious patients, including dietary requirements based on specific medical conditions.

The New Visions Health Careers Exploration Program is geared for high-achieving, college-bound seniors seeking careers in the health care industry, including doctors, dietitians, nurses, health administrators and therapists. Visit RocklandBOCES.org for more information.

“Take advantage of every opportunity you have here. It will serve you well.”

A core component of the P-TECH model is building connections and networking with mentors. What better group to foster these relationships than those who have walked in their shoes? Last week, several of our Rockland BOCES Hudson Valley P-TECH alumni stopped by for a special visit that was part mentor lounge, part reunion. Graduates from the past seven years shared their post-high school journeys in college and the workforce. They encouraged students to discover their passions and create their own experiences within the unique learning model. After imparting some wisdom, the group engaged in friendly conversation and competition—perpetuating the connections they forged during their time together.
